I'm trying to help a friend get her printer working. Every time she tries to print, she gets a message saying she has to run onenote first.
I had her check to see what her computer shows for the default printer and it's her HP envy, which is what it's supposed to be. There's nothing listed for onenote. I thought I'd see if she could uninstall the program but it doesn't show up under programs.
I thought onenote was connected to Microsoft Office which she doesn't even have. Her computer came with a trial version but that has since expired.
I'm not sure what else to check or how to help her get her printer working.
She first noticed there was a problem when trying to print a page from the web so I had her try printing something from notepad and it still wouldn't print. She kept getting the same message that she had to run onenote first.

Run a repair on Microsoft office, by either doing it through Programs, or the program itself. Also check in Devices & Printers, to make sure that OneNote is not set as default print to device, which is usually what happens. Just re-run the printer setup again, to make sure that everything was properly set up for the printer.

A lot of times if a person has a printer that uses WiFi or Ethernet, and they swap Gateway's or Routers's. The printer still thinks that it is attached to the old gateway. I set my printer to a Static IP, when I set it up. That way it never changes IP's, when the lease on the gateway or router times out.

Can you run a repair even if you don't have a usable copy of Office? Her trial version expired.
One Note is not set as default. In fact it's not even listed under devices.
She also hasn't changed her router but I was thinking it might not hurt to reinstall the printer.

If the trial is expired, then just uninstall it. She does not need to reinstall the printer. Just go into the wifi settings and make sure the printer has the new SSID & Passphrase. Then everything should be good.

OK, Thanks. I'll have her try that.
