Windows Media Center-8.1 Update DVD/CD Issue...

    Hello,

Utilizing a ASUS K-55 laptop installed with Windows 8.1 Pro w/Media Center OS, my TSSRcorp SN-28BB drive is acting up....I have tried to uninstall the driver through device manager, then make sure that region--->is set to United States (1), then the DVD media would work fine....

However, when the movie is finished, putting in another DVD...opening up Windows Media Center, is set to 'auto-load' DVD media...then I get this pop-up from Windows Media Center:

I have also searched through ASUS support files for DVD/CD firmware updates for my TSSTcorp device but there are none compatible...
If I then 'again uninstall' the driver then input region again (1)...then DVD will function properly...lol?

However, this is a royal pain-in-the-arse.....All DVD's have been purchased in the US market.....

There a TSSTcorp site from Samsung/Toshiba, that has various firmware updates, but after running the 'identify tool' none were compatible for my device...

Have also run the Microsoft Mr. Fixit CD/DVD tool...no success..
Then have reinstalled the OS (fresh install) thinking maybe some of the TSSTcorp identity tool files were corrupting my driver...? Also tried these suggestions...

TSSTcorp scsi dvd driver - Microsoft Community

I then opened up the laptop, and made sure that the ribbon/cable for the DVD/CD Rom device were secure...no issues here...
Any suggestions would be a 'greatly appreciated'....!!

    Try VLC media player instead.

Not sure what that has to do with actually solving the Windows Media Center issue itself?

Anyway I have to ask, but are these legit DVD's? The "other" reason I'm asking is because they could have been copied from another region, thus making them incompatible.

Also, have you looked at the drive itself as well? It may not be an issue with Media Center, but with the DVD drive. If possible, try to find an external drive and see if the DVD's play? If so, you now know the issue lays outside of Media Center.

BTW, and I'm not sure if this makes a difference, but is the OS a U.S. copy?

    Let us know.

Again, try VLC Media Player. If the problem follows when you try playing the DVD in there. Then we know it is an OS issue, not a player issue. Microsoft did some stupid stuff with Windows 8 Media Center, when they removed it from the OS, and made it a separate program on top of the OS.

You can also check the DVD in Device Manager and make sure region settings have not changed.

What do you mean by questioning if the OS is a U.S. copy?

    Hi all,

Thanks as I did try VLC player, and when the US legit purchased..lol DVD plays without issue in Windows Media Center, then it will also play fine in VLC player..however when the above Windows Media Center pic pops up, then the DVD will not play in VLC player.
The only trouble shooting method when this occurs is uninstalling the TSSTcorp device then rebooting the laptop..
Strange because I performed another 'fresh install' of Windows 8 Pro...at this point opening up device manager, and viewing DVDCDW properties it showsSN
SN-28BB and both players work fine....however when up dating to Windows 8.1.1...issues..will write to Asus tech support.

Doing this via my Lumia 920...when I updated to Win8.1.1, then opening up device manager and viewing DVDCDW--->properties it then reads: TSSTcorp, but does not have SN-28BB next to it like it showed with Win 8...?
It worked perfectly fine in both Windows Media Center and VVLC players will Windows 8..

Ok...response back from Asus (was excepted)...D/L and install the latest chipset and BIOS and see if that helps..Already had this...lol Unfortunately Asus does not have a updated firmware for TSSTcorp SN-208BB CDDVDW Rom drive...please contact TSSTcorp support...lol. TSSTcorp replied back that their automated firmware tool maybe able to direct me to a updated SN-208BB firmware.exe... However after running the 'tool' my version AS01 & OEM Code: AS---->not compatible...
So my last shoot at a possible solution was go to Troubleshooting within Control Panel--->Hardware &Sound-->configure a device--->check auto repair...and keep fingers crossed...lol
After rebooting, I went into Device Manager--->Properties and saw:
TSSTCorp CDDVDW SN-208BB and when I updated from Win8 Pro to Win8.1.1 Pro---->SN-208BB was not labeled. Inserted a DVD....and it played properly....and this has now been tested for one week..so it looks like my very annoying issue is rectified....
