Two Seagate Barracuda 3TB drives seem to be dead.

My first drive 'died' about 4 months ago, my second one today. By 'died' I mean that with either drive hooked up my computer hangs at the BIOS/UEFI screen that has the message that F1 or Del will get you into setup. It stays there forever. Removing the drives restores things to normal.

Today I noticed that my system partially locked up and my drive was making some unusual noises. I had to power down and when I restarted I hung at the first BIOS screen. I recall my other drive did the same thing. I hooked the drives to other ports and even an SATA 3 card that I had laying around to no avail.

So how can I fix the problem if I can't get further then the first BIOS screen? Is it safe to say my drives are borked? Both drives btw are the same model. Very curious.

A bad power supply will kill drives. Seagate will replace the drives. Contact them.

The drives are out of warranty. PSU is not the problem AFAICT.

They have been known to replace even out of warranty drives. As for stating that the PSU is not the problem. Did you use a tester or DMM to check to make sure that the PSU is not the culprit?

If you have two drives dying that quickly with no known S.M.A.R.T. problems if you in fact checked for that before they died. I would be looking at the PSU as the culprit.
