Windows 8 not installing any drivers

Hi all,

I have had a problem with my rig for a few months now; have found no solutions online and been skirting around sorting it out. I'm running a custom build PC on which I clean installed a (legal) copy of Windows 8.1

My system works fine except it can not install drivers for ANYTHING non-standard. Keyboard, mouse, memory sticks, HDDs all work fine, however when I plug in my phone/tablet/camera etc via USB, it fails to install drivers and I can't use my device.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Can nobody help me!? I've been trying to find solutions but I can't get around the basic noob solutions like "Check windows auto-update is switched on" - and other steps which I have obviously already tried.
I can't find drivers for my devices anywhere online - not that I should have to, as windows should find them automatically...

If anyone solves this for me I'll buy you a Pizza

I was having almost the same problem as you with my ASUS Laptop with Win 8.1! I might have over corrected but last weekend I refreshed my laptop starting at default from the MFG all over again with Win 8.1. And since I have done this the problem has gone away or at least for now. The best I can tell is that there was an Windows Update or some software install that I did that corrupted Windows and instead of taking the time to troubleshoot I just did a Windows Refresh. When you do this your data is saved but all your installed programs are wiped and all setting are set to default. Then you have to reinstall your programs and pay attention what you install so as the same problem does not come back.

Sorry just got back from a day trip! But Clinlgm posted the link that I would have and it looks right on the mark!

Usually these types of devices ( phone/tablet/camera etc via USB) require a driver provided from the device manufacturer. Not Windows. Contact the device manufacturer or go to their web site.

I never managed to get last 2 Androids to work with any drivers on Win7 and 8/8.1, wired (USB) or BT.
