My Computer Show incorrect remaining space

    Hi

I have two drives which have exactly the same files on them. I have opened the drive and selected everything and gone properties. The sizes are the same.
If I then go to "This PC" it shows that 1 drive has used 50GB more than the other.

Here is a screenshot of the information I am seeing.

Is there a reason this would be?

Empty the trash and do a drive cleanup on the one that has less space available and then see if they match.

The sizes shown are for files that are accessible to Windows explorer. But there can be others that are not accessible and cannot be counted. I suspect that the drive on the left has 50 GB more in volume shadow copies. These would be in the System Volume Information folder. Explorer will show the folder as being empty but that is not the case. By default even an admin account cannot access it's contents.

How did these drives come to have almost identical contents?

Just a guess. I would say he had drive a and then copied the contents to drive b.

What are the manufacturer & model of the drives? Each manufacturer sets up the drives to reserve a certain amount of space, so that the drive can move data if it finds bad sectors.

Usually that is not a 50 GB difference.

True, but these reserved sectors would account for only a tiny fraction of 50 GB.

Actually they can add up to that amount. Depending on how the mfg has set up the drive for space reservation. Without knowing models & manufacturers of the hard drives. We are just taking potshots in the dark with Blindfolds on.

Hi, For some reason, the disk space usage bars in 'My Computer' are missing. Although they should be visible in 'tile view', I can only see the drive icons, not the bars. Interestingly, When I open a file in e.g. Word I can see the bars in the open file dialog (also in 'tile view'). I've already...

I just got a message on my hp laptop this morning saying I had low disk space on my C drive, which is my primary drive but when I checked to see how much space was left it says I have 846gbs free out of 908gbs. Why would I get this message when it looks as if I have plenty of free space?
Does making a new drive by shrinking volume of c: drive and making a volume of the new drive slow down your computer? Oh and does using space on the new drive slow down your computer either?
I am really interested in drive pooling as I have a computer running windows 7 now that has 5 drives (3x2TB and 2X3TB) that act as my home media storage center. I have TV shows split between 3 drives and movies on 2 drives. When I access these from other applications, it can be hard to group...
