My Computer Show incorrect remaining space

Hi

I have two drives which have exactly the same files on them. I have opened the drive and selected everything and gone properties. The sizes are the same.
If I then go to "This PC" it shows that 1 drive has used 50GB more than the other.

Here is a screenshot of the information I am seeing.

Is there a reason this would be?

Empty the trash and do a drive cleanup on the one that has less space available and then see if they match.

The sizes shown are for files that are accessible to Windows explorer. But there can be others that are not accessible and cannot be counted. I suspect that the drive on the left has 50 GB more in volume shadow copies. These would be in the System Volume Information folder. Explorer will show the folder as being empty but that is not the case. By default even an admin account cannot access it's contents.

How did these drives come to have almost identical contents?

D: will have all kinds of hidden, protected system files and folders, (and maybe more):

What are the manufacturer & model of the drives? Each manufacturer sets up the drives to reserve a certain amount of space, so that the drive can move data if it finds bad sectors.

True, but these reserved sectors would account for only a tiny fraction of 50 GB.

Actually they can add up to that amount. Depending on how the mfg has set up the drive for space reservation. Without knowing models & manufacturers of the hard drives. We are just taking potshots in the dark with Blindfolds on.
