Updating 8.1 drivers for first time

I always worry when updating drivers.

My Dell laptop is running well at the moment but there are a few drivers that need updating.

I have checked the Dell website for drivers that need updating (using the Service Tag) and there are about ten that need doing.

Do I really need to update them, and if I do, should I install a certain driver first before any others?

Can I switch back to the driver I am using now if things go wrong?

    Thanks

If your laptop is "running well", I wouldn't bother with updating the drivers, except maybe the one for your graphics card if you play recent games.

Which ones are you looking at to update. Sometimes besides Video card as mentioned, IDE SATA Controller drivers, chipset drivers, network adapter and sometimes BIOS updates, but be careful only if it has improvements to it worth doing.

Give a list of the ones you feel you want to know about, we can advice you. This is usually best place for you to go to get updates.

For one did this laptop come with Windows 8 or 8.1 ? Make sure check the right category 32 bit or 64 bit mattering to what laptop is.

Another thing you should do is check each one of these devices and device drivers in Device Manager to check the drivers version and to make sure you have them on this system then compare it to Dell site driver version number.
Again each one be in a different area of Device Manager if not sure ask again where to find it, just do not install it without knowing.

Not sure and familiar with Digital Delivery and Quickset App. Don't know which graphics card you have, Intel or AMD Radeon for one to choose, check device manager under Display adapter.

Most others seem o.k. some are doubled with different version so again check your device manager for them first compare it to ones listed, you may not have everything listed here. Just check the drivers tab on each device in Device manager.

Need more help i will respond.

O.k. well check either Windows 8 64bit and Windows 8.1 64 bit under Dell's site compare differences.
If decide to put any in without responding back, make sure to make a restore point first.
Seems like a program called Dell Update application may do it for you.

As everything is running fine at the moment I don't think I will try installing any new drivers until I start having problems.
    Thanks for your time.
