VIA USB 3.0 Controller stopped working, now hidden device

This evening I went to use by portable USB drive and noticed it wouldn't work. I tried another port and it still didn't work. I then tried another device on the same ports and it also did not work.

I opened up device manager and saw that my VIA USB xHCI controller was no longer listed under USB controllers. I turned on Show Hidden Devices and it then appeared as a hidden device. I attempted to re-install the drivers for it but the installer wouldn't run because it said it didn't detect the hardware on the system.

I last used the ports 2 nights ago and didn't have any problem then. I thought the problem may have been caused by the Windows updates I installed today so I uninstalled them all, but the USB controller still doesn't work.

System Info:

Gigabyte GA990FXA-UD3 motherboard
AMD FX-8350 CPU
16GB RAM
GeForce GTX 770 GPUs
Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit OS

Tried reinstalling Drivers, it says it doesn't detect the hardware installed on the system and won't continue. Windows reports that the device had been disconnected from the system.

I did a System Restore and it worked again. Today I tried installing updates again to see if it happened again and it did, but then when I did another System Restore this time it didn't come back.

One of this week's Windows Updates broke my USB controller.

There is a new BIOS dated 8/27 could try that.

Also did you make sure that you chose the correct rev. number. If you just used the rev# from the link I posted. It will come back and state that. Same if the device is still installed and has drivers installed.

You have to do a complete driver & device uninstall, before you install the driver. Also you have to make sure that you tell Windows to not automatically install drivers.

I uninstalled them from Device Manager and selected the option to delete the drivers. I then disabled the controller in the BIOS, restarted, scanned for hardware changes, restarted and enabled the controller and now the USB controller isn't listed at all, even when Hidden Devices are enabled. I cannot install the drivers for it as it says the device is not connected.

My motherboard rev is 4.0 I know to check that I am looking at the correct revision when downloading from Gigabyte.

We did not state anything about disabling the USB interface from the bios, now did we. Follow our instructions please. Otherwise you are going to be running around in circles like a three legged dog.

We cannot help you, if you do not follow the instructions we tell you how to fix this issue.
