Need a simple way to find my motherboard model

I just installed W 8.1 recently. It's having incompatibility issues with my Patriot ram stick. I contacted Patriot and they want my motherboard model. Problem is I can't find my motherboard model on 8.1

I looked for system information but they removed it. I'm going to all these sites that lead me to downloading these third party apps I don't even trust to find it.

It's been such a round-about day for me.

Does anyone know why exactly they removed system information? It was a very useful and easy tool to go to find information on your CPU. It seems like I'm one of the few who have that issue since I see only a few complaining about it though. I can't get any useful information on the internet about it. I'm thinking everyone else found a work around?

Anyway, I need help finding my motherboard model without disassembling my PC. Thanks.

Wow I can't believe I found the answer on here, just right after I made a post about it.

I've watched youtube videos, went through articles with 10 steps how to open up control panel only to mention (Note: System Performance and tools has been removed in 8.1.)

All I had to do was type in msinfo32.exe in the search. I mean seriously? That only takes one sentence.

I wish Microsoft could give a simple answer like that.

It doesn't always report exact information, as is the case with my laptop. A program called Speccy works well.

Well mine does not show in msinfo32 at all. But having a desktop i just opened the case and the model number is on the motherboard.

Once you know the model, go to the manufacturer's website and sometimes they have QVL with lists of RAM that were tested on that board.

It's not always enough to have just make and model number, there may be several versions of a MB with same "main" model, v1.0, v.11, v2.0 etc and that could make all the difference as compatibility, BIOS version etc. If you don't know exact version and try to update BIOS for instance, you could end up with a bricked MB in a hurry. Programs like Speccy, Aida, Everest etc. can give you much more detailed, important information. Information provided with windows is as basic as it can be.

Huh, I plumb forgot about CPUID-Z, when looking for new, add-on RAM, look under SPD heading, it will tel you exactly which RAM you have now and if you get memory stick with same JEDEC# data you are practically guaranteed it will work with your old one.

This is true Count, my board was a revision v1.0 going to ASUS site does not tell me when looking for drivers and upgrade info.
Which revision.

Plus when i wanted to put Windows 8 on here because of my revision of the board it did not support secure boot, which higher revision possibly did, also i believe to do with the ROM type BIOS. Again could not be upgraded to newer CAP BIOS.

When upgrading RAM i questioned ASUS's motherboard support over phone, they were unexpectedly great.

It's even better to crosscheck with the markings on MB. Gigabyte for instance last few years marks exact version of MB in the left bottom corner of their MBs. Asus tends to print it somewhere between first two PCI slots. MSI is usually cryptic with their markings.

Yes, forgot to add my motherboard lists the revision number next to but not close to the model number had to hunt a bit for it, but was not easy to see as they put it in location where sometimes have to remove your PCI card to see, like you said in between card slots.

I saw that, ty. But my program does not list the motherboards model it lists the model PC's that also use this board. Again which is also listed on the board along with it's real model number and revision #.
