    HDD problems

    Hi,

I have used HD Tune Pro to scan my hard drive (Hitachi) for errors and it found 2 damaged blocks - in SMART the Current pending sector count became 2. I decided to erase the whole disk using Hitachi Drive Fitness Test. It successfully erased the drive and then I ran the Advanced test which also completed without errors. I have preinstalled my OS and scanned the drive with HD Tune again - no damaged blocks! But in SMART the Current pending sector count is still 2 ?! Why is that so? Shouldn't have they been remapped or used again?

    Thanks for your help!

Nothing, short of firmware change can change what's marked in SMART. Just like Vegas (What happens in SMART, stays in SMART).

Thanks CountMike for your quick answer but shouldn't be these Pending sectors moved to the spare area after format thus the Pending sector return to 0 and the Reallocated sectors become 2 ?

Format or even OS has nothing to do there, it's all happening in firmware.
