Touch Keyboard is missing some functionality?

    Hi all,

It would seem that my Surface 3 touch keyboard is all messed up, for some reason I can't change the type/layout of the keyboard. You know that button down in the bottom right? It doesn't do anything. When I tap it to change to the handwriting or full keyboards it doesn't do anything. The keyboard button is also missing from the charm setting menu. Anyone had any experience with this?

I've done a system restore to the day I bought it and still no go, I setup a second account and it was still broken on that one too.

Can't say for how long it has been broken, as I haven't needed to change the keyboard since I got the Surface. It was all fine and dandy on my Surface 1.

    Any ideas?

Take a look here and at the bottom of the page there is a downloadable troubleshooter to use, see if it helps you.

Not too familiar with this, i do have a tablet and mine is o.k., last resort suggestion is do you have a system recovery partition ?
If so may need to do a system recovery, unless someone else has a solution without doing this. Strange if system restore did not work, if dated back to day you bought it.

Try to check settings for turning windows features on/off in control panel under Programs and Features. Something with touch features are off.

Yeah, I thought the system restore would've fixed it. But nope.

Other than that one button all the other touch features work perfectly.

May have to try a reset or refresh.

I just noticed that the keyboard layout button works at the login screen, just not after I log in.

In regards to the above development - Before I login it will allow me to change the keyboard to any apart from the handwriting one (which is greyed out) while putting in my password. After I have logged in the keyboard I chose at the login screen is saved, however the button to change it is still inactive. I checked msconfig and it would seem that the touch and handwriting service is starting up with the machine and it appears to be active under services.

I've disabled everything apart from that one service for startup but it still didn't function correctly.

    Solved!

I put it off as long as I could but I finally gave in and did a refresh. Works perfectly now.
I love how when you do a refresh it leaves a document on your desktop that lists everything it uninstalled and links to the website it comes from. Very smart.
