Multiple instances of one printer

Has anyone encountered this issue?

I installed an HP Office Jet J4580 in Windows 8.1. It works fine.
However when I go to 'Devices and Printers' and right click on that printer (it is the only printer I installed), it shows a drop down box with three Office Jet J4500 Series. I can select any one of them and they all work, for instance when I print a test page.

Screenshot of the dropdown list:

It bugs me that there are 3 listings of that one printer. Does anyone know how to resolve this?

Regards,
Mark

Two ways to go. Unint=stall printers until there are none shown, then reinstall.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

After the reinstall you may see multiple printers. You won;t know until you try it.

In control panel > devices and printers are there more than one of this printers functions listed since it is a printer/scanner/copier/fax you may see each function listed.

Since that printer has Fax capability you should have at least two choices in the Print function of programs, one for the printer and one for the Fax function. And for obtaining information be sure to use the model name and number exactly as printed on the machine, i.e. HP Officejet J4580, gets more reliable results and less hits to wade through.

I agree, if it aint broke dont fix it. I might just accept that there are 3 listings of my printer. It works so hey, why bother? On a side note, with regard to your nic, I'm currently looking at a vinyl disc with Sketches of Spain printed on it.

@Majulook
This is the only printer listed in Devices and Printers. It has a green checkmark telling me it is the default printer. When I right click on it, it gives me the multiple instances.

@Berton
Yes that is what I was expecting. Fax and Printer. But as you can see in the screenshot, it has one fax and 3 identical printers listed. Again, it all works fine, so maybe I should just let it go. Just a minor quirk. The driver I downloaded from HP is the Officejet J4580 driver. After it installed, it simply says Officejet J4500 series.

Usually happens when Windows 8 Discovers the printer. Then it may have pulled it through Homegroup. And last was when you physically installed it.

Ok so that's just what happens and I really shouldn't think twice about it?

I'm glad you enjoy the music of Miles.

Remove them through Device Manager or Devices & Printers. You may have to use the HP printer uninstall tool that HP has, to completely remove all from the registry.
