External HDD inaccessible... chkdsk made it worse.

So I have a Maxtor External HDD. Straight away, I will say that this piece of rubbish is incredibly buggy and I've had over a million problems with this in the past.

However. The other day, I thought it would be good practise to run chkdsk on the HDD, just to ensure it's integrity, but in the back of my mind I've always been a little wary because I've ended up falling into MORE problems due to chkdsk.

    SO THE PROBLEM IS.

I can't access the drive by clicking on it.
    The logo doesn't appear.
    The label doesn't appear.

However, I can access folders + files if I open a path directly (F:\folderone\) or if I cd.

mkdir ran succesfully, so did rmdir.

Long story short, how can I get this fixed -.-

    Thank you!

E: Seems like I can access SOME folders through typing in the path in the run console.

If you've had problems all along then I suspect the drive hardware. Not much can be done if it's something intermittent.

When suggested to "take ownership", I figured I'd just use the context menu option. I tinkered with the Security options and managed to get it working.

    Thanks for the help!
