hello

I bought a sumsung Ativ smart pc about a year ago, recently had to take it in for repairs (still under warranty), before taking it in I used the "windows 7 recovery" system (despite being in windows 8) to create a system image, I then reset my computer to factory settings

have the image on a USB drive, just got the computer back, however I cannot restore my computer
not sure why but whenever I select the restore option it wont let me pick a local folder or usb drive as the location of the backup image, it seems to be looking exclusively for networked drives/machines

ive read I may need a restore cd to get this working, however my tablet only has 1 usb drive and no disk drive, what should I do?

Are you using the Advanced Options Tab when trying to Restore the System Image ?
If you are it should be able to locate the image automatically.

tbh I don't see an advanced options tab

im hitting the start button then typing "Recover"
in settings I hit the option that says "Windows 7 File recovery" (even though its windows 8)
in this menu it says there are no backups in the backup location (which is a lie, the location is drive D and there is indeed a backup in drive D)
so I click "Select another backup to restore files from" and it starts looking for a network drive, wont let me look outside of network locations, so I cannot manually select the drive
do not see advanced options tab anywhere

From the Charms Bar: Settings > Change PC Settings > Update & Recovery > Recovery > Restart Now. When the PC Restarts it will bring you to the Choose an Option Screen. Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > System Image Recovery.
Make sure your USB Drive is attached to the PC before clicking on System Image Recovery.
The PC will Restart again and bring you into System Image Recovery and will search and find your Image for recovery.
