I recently got an Asus X550LA and updated to Windows 8.1, since then I cannot change the brightness level. In the settings charm the brightness charm says unavailable.

I found posts similar to this, and none of the suggested solutions have not worked.

I've tried:
  • Switching to Microsoft Basic Display Adapter
  • Downgraded to another version of 10.x
  • Downgraded to 9.x
  • Uninstalled and re-installed the drivers
  • Disable graphic driver and re-enabled

None of these solutions have worked. Is there something else I should try?

So I got it to work, it turns it TeamViewer was the culprit. Under Monitor, it was using PnP-Monitor provided by TeamViewer instead of the Generic PnP Monitor provided by Microsoft. I switched to Generic PnP Monitor by going to 'Properties -> Driver (Select Tab) -> Update Driver -> Browse my computer for driver software -> Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer -> Generic PnP Monitor (Select it).
Or you can go into TeamViewer options -> Advance -> Scroll down to Advance network settings -> Uninstall the monitor driver
