Did you try uninstalling it's driver in Device manager and restarting with mouse plugged in ?

PS2 ports are not hot swap ports like USB ports are. You could potentially damage your motherboard by unplugging and inserting the mouse while the PC is powered up. I'm surprised doing that actually gets it working.

If computer is started with PS/2 mouse connected you can hot swap it or even change mouse and it will work. Same goes for KB.

You can do it, but that doesn't mean you should. I personally don't do it and don't recommend doing it. Just my 2 cents, based on my background as an electronic technician. I have seen it damage the port.

Of course but that explains why it works for him.

If it hasn't damaged anything yet, it likely won't now. Still, if I see someone doing something that I think might do more harm than good I mention it. Then they can decide if they will or won't do it. Doing it just once might be why he is having this issue now? The OP may have unplugged or plugged it in with the system powered up without thinking about it.

I think you would have less headaches if you just switched to a USB mouse...then it won't matter how many times you plug and unplug the mouse.

Yeah.. USB will work.. But I'm still trying to figure out what could be the issue here..
It works after i disconnect and plug in again and after that if I reboot my computer immediately, then it works too but if I shut it down today and tomorrow if I start my pc, it doesn't work..!!

Hi there

The best way of using PS/2 connections is to use one of those PS2 double (mouse + keyboard) connectors that plug in to a USB port. I still use a PS/2 keyboard that way a) because the keys have a much better feel on the old keyboard than the newer one's and b) it's a WHITE keyboard with black letters -- all the new keyboards I see are invariably BLACK one's with White letters !!!!.

The USB device will allow 100% plug 'n play.

Cheers

Yeah.. But these ps2 devices worked earlier with Windows 8 on a ps2 port and I'm still wondering why now it shows this strange behavior..

-_-_-_=

Someone Please Help. This Is The Closest Thing I Could Find About USB! I Have A Toshiba Windows 8.1 i5 Core Satellite S-50A That Was A Gift. It Has Advanced Gaming Graphics. When I Got It I Tried Plugging My Mouse And Phone Into The Left Hand USB Outlet But Nothing Would Work. It Started Working But Not Fully I Can Plug My iPhone Into It Because It Goes Charge Uncharge Charge Uncharge Forever Rapidly! Would This Be Caused By A Short? And If So What Can I Do To Fix It? Send It Back To Toshiba? It Still Has Warranty I Think. Email Me @ GiblySwag01@gmail.com

Those are probably USB 3 ports, check if driver for them is installed properly.
