Hi,

I just bought a "Toshiba HDTB105EK3AA 500GB Stor.E Basics USB 3.0 2.5 Inch External Hard Drive", which they say is for win8 as well but, I took it out of the box & connected its USB cable to my win8 PC with no luck. It does not show on the win. explorer.

It does not show in the Vista laptop either but, shows in the small Acer XP Netbook.

It boasts that uses both 3 & 2 USB.

Can you help please before I return it? ....thanx ....nick

With new external HD, I always re-format it to get rid of all crapware they put in there. If you wish, right click on it then select format.
In addition to the above:
You can also download:Macrium Reflect Free , Macrium User Manual:
  1. Install Macrium.
  2. Create a USB/DVD Macrium Rescue disk.
  3. Backup your Windows OS, Data to the Toshiba external HD.
  4. When you need to restore. Boot up your PC using the USB/DVD in step 2 then restore the image from step 3.

If I backup my entire HD, & I put it in another HD will it override its OS & install the new OS?

Do the two HDs have to be exactly the same type, capacity etc?

In an Maxtor Sata 160gb HD I used for storing before I see a 68 GB directory "arc_030514181228342" & in it has 27 files, one is arc_030514181228342pfi & the rest IMG .pdf files, anybody recognises what it is, it could be a backup but do not remember which program could I have used.

Also if I use the Macrium Reflect FREE/TRIAL to backup my HD when the free period expires can I reinstall it & restore the backup to a HD?

Thanx, I got the free one.

1. I created my win8 HD image 029BAD2ABA1011C9-00-00.mrimg, I by mistake I doubleclicked it & my six backed up partitions appeared in the win explorer, which I cannot delete now Attached #1

2. Creating recover dvd failed on 4 DVD-RW (I have no Flash stick) first on Linux with error Attached #2

3. Then on PE gave Attached #3 & failed with same error.

4. I read the Links but, could not fathom the second one, can't I make that image into ISO in an easier way? I presume that ISO will be used to recreate my new win8 HD ...nick

I'm afraid that I don't use Macrium to be able to help with it. Hopefully someone more familiar with it will be able to help.

I created an image file of my HD. What do I do with that image now?
You use this image to restore your PC back to the state it was in when you made the image or you can selectively restore file(s) from it by mounting the image. To restore, you'd need to boot up your PC from the Rescue disk (either a CD/DVD or a USB stick). When you create the DVD, did you have any kind of anti virus running ? if so, turn it off and try again. If it still fails then you can download an already made from this link: Macrium WinPE .iso - OneDrive
and use Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way to make a bootable DVD or USB.

Thanx,

1. Understand the first & second paragraph.

2. Antivirus or not it is impossible to create the rescue disk, tried Linux, WinPE, DVD-R, DVD-RW, all kind CDs but, always fails & get "all grouped together for you to see" the attached scan. If you can read one of them even says the disk reached end of its life!!!, & same for all disks I tried, see its properties, it is perfect & dragged files in each of them OK.

3. Had it worked how would it have found the "029BAD2ABA1011C9-00-00.mrimg" image Reflex created?. Never at any place in the proses was I asked to point to that image I have in my Ext.HD

4. So now I downloaded the ISO, you kindly showed me, but will not copy into any CD/DVD.

5. Forgive my ignorance but, I completely confused myself as to what I should do now with this ISO even if it copied into a disk, which it does not. Do you mean to say that by booting the PC with it it has compressed my entire system & would load it on another HD & am as before?, how could the download know the innards of my systems?

And I have to make the DVD bootable as well or the proses does it? How does the whole thing works? ...nick

Once you have the DVD rescue disk created and boot from it. You will be presented with a screen similar to this:

After you downloaded the ISO and save it to your hard disk. Insert a blank CD into the drive, run rufus (the link provided above) and browse for the ISO and select it, click start to burn a bootable CD as shown below:
