Tell me what these partitions are for please??

See attachment: I just bought this used computer. I was preparing to use Macrium to run a disc image and saw all these partitions. What are they for. Are they all necessary? Should I just image the entire HD as is or should I rearange something here?

Looks like a mess to me, I have no idea why there are so many and what they all are for. If it was mine I would nuke them all, do a clean install, and be done with it. That's just me though, feel free to wait for other replies and possibly more info.

I have no OS DVD. How can I do a clean install without one? It is a Dell xps 12 with 8.1 on it. It was supposedly set back to original factory settings from the seller I bought it used from.

I don't know what to tell you? I see at least two unformatted partitions that don't make any sense to me. I'd look up how to do a factory restore and try doing it again. I'd also run the utility to make a recovery disk set, if it has that utility.

    DIAGS : Dell Diagnostics partition.
WINRETOOLS : Windows Recovery Environment tools
    Recovery : Obvious

The rest, well yeah it does look like a mess, especially the 2 unformatted ones. If you had an install DVD/Iso I'd advise you to do a clean install. As it is, if you have enough space on your backup drive, go for everything to be safe.

Partition number 2 looks like the MSR Partition. (Microsoft Reserved)

Microsoft states all GPT disks should have it.
(It may still work if you delete it but advanced disk features may not then be possible) ??
