I assume that you have either Windows 8.1 USB/DVD. If so then you should not have any problem reinstall Windows 8.1. Just boot up the PC from the Windows 8.1 USB/DVD. In one of the screen, select Custom Install, select the unallocated partition, click New then Next. Windows Installation should re-create all the neccessary partitions and install Windows.

Quote from this post: UEFI Boot Mode (installing using the GPT partition style) and Legacy BIOS Boot Mode (installing using the MBR partition style). -> link

Normally, you should be able to delete all the partitions on the Where do you want to install Windows? screen.

Note: But if you cannot delete all the partitions on the Where do you want to install Windows? screen.

- Boot the computer using the Windows 7/8/10 installation media.
- On the first screen, press SHIFT+F10 to bring up the command prompt.
- Run the following commands at the command prompt.

diskpart
list disk (this will give you a listing of the disks on your system)
select disk # (select the disk you want to clean, for example select disk 0)
clean (running the clean command will delete all partitions on the disk)
exit

Even if you are going to use the GPT (GUID Partition Table), you do not need to run the convert gpt command, since you are not creating the partitions at a command prompt.

- Close the command prompt window and continue your Windows installation as usual.

Previously my HDD had two partitions, when I do disk part & list part I can see only one partition which cumulates both partition. Like this I will loose everything from D partition. Any idea what I can do not to loose that data?

I have done this hundreds of times so I know it works.
You need to find out whether the HD was initialized with GPT or MBR disk style.
Use diskpart and type: list disk
If the last column under GPT has an asterisk then your disk was initialzed with GPT style. otherwise it's MBR.
For GPT style, You must set the BIOS to UEFI and You must boot your Windows installation with UEFI running 64 Bit.
For MBR style, You must set the BIOS to MBR and you can install Windows with either 32 or 64 bit.

The problem is that I can not see the two partitions under disk part / list disk. It shows the full HDD. And since in my D partition I have some important data which I really do not want to loose there is a problem.

  1. Diskpart
  2. list disk
  3. select disk # ========> where # is disk number
  4. list partition

Ok maybe I was misunderstood. There is only one partition under disk part/ list disk. But my laptop has two partitions, C & D. C had the OS and is faulty now, D has some important data which I do not want to loose.
but under disk management I had two partitions, actually three. One was small of aprox 350 Mb, FAT32.

It is not a partition, it is a disk. list disk will give you the number of disks in your PC such as 0, 1, 2 etc...
If you only have one disk, then it will list as disk 0, to see the partitions inside the disk, you need to do steps 3 and 4 above.

Ok I was missing the list partition step. SORRY.
now I can see 4 partitions.
Partition 1 primary 350mb
Partition 2 unallocated space 104.7Gb
Partition 0 extended 91Gb
Partition 3 logical 593Gb

I do not know what it with Partition 0, every thing else I recognize. So I can CLEAN now my faulty partition.

I really don't understand why it listed 1,2,0,3 in this sequence. Can you make a screen shot of your disk from disk management and post it.
