    Clean install on ASUS Tablet

I am wondering if there is a way to do a clean install of Windows 8.1 on a Windows 8 tablet.

Tablet Model is ASUS VivoTab Smart ME400C-C2.

It came originally with Windows 8 32bit. I was wanting to know if there is a possibility of doing this with a Windows 8.1 Disc.

Now i know there is a way to hook up a portable optical drive with a cable called a USB OTG.
I was told by ASUS though i would not be able to boot from the optical drive like a PC or Laptop could and to be able to boot from this OS disc so i can do the install this way.

So is there is a way maybe by making a disc. image and putting it on it's MicroSD or running it directly from the disc, i am not sure how this would work wanting to do a custom install.

Question is there any differences with the Windows 8 OS on the tablet now, compared to the OS on the disc usually used for a PC or Laptop ?

Well when i first received this tablet i tried to update it through Windows update, which i had 115 updates to do. It took hours, then while configuring the updates were it says " Windows is configuring updates do not turn off your PC ".

After awhile i get it saying " Failure to configure updates, Windows is rolling back changes" this went on all night till next day and i had to force restart it through the hole which you put a paper clip in. Then i had to do a reset.

Still it is taking forever to download Windows update, i am trying a few at a time. Since i figured out i had a Windows update problem i did some researching on it and i used Microsoft Fix it, so far now it is downloading updates, let's see how it goes. Will do a few at a time for now.

I do like a clean install ,just wanted to know if it is possible or not on a tablet. I didn't get a chance to use system restore yet till now, guess was because i was just getting things going with tablet, i first came across this issue with updates. I usually use sytem restore on my Desktop a lot.

Just a thought, not something i would do, but skips all these updates since tablets much slower then a PC or Laptop.

Do the updates a bunch at a time, if you try to do them all at once you will wind up in a bad situation, it might take longer but then you will not crash the tablet

Yes this is what i am doing, few updates at a time. So far the ones i did already went in fine, even after a restart.

As said reason it wasn't working is that there was a problem found with Windows update when i used the Fix-It Troubleshoot tool from Microsoft and it made the repairs, then it seems to be working so far i was able to download and install 60 updates.

Let see how the rest goes. True it seems easier to crash this Tablet unlike a Desktop PC.

I just wanted to know if it was possible to do a clean install, this was not just for a way out of this issue with Windows update that i posted this for.

No big deal if there is not, i will eventually upgrade to Windows 8.1 when i get in all these updates for Win8 first.
Think i have about 55 more left, Thanks for responding.

    Update:

All my Windows 8 updates went in fine now, i am now installing the update to Windows 8.1, so far it's almost done.

Updates i did for Windows 8 went in much faster after correcting the issues with Windows update it had with Microsoft's Tool,Fix-It.

All Windows 8 updates went in successfully and i upgraded to Windows 8.1 and that went in fine too.

Actually gained more disk space and then even more after running
    Disk cleanup.

I assume there is not a way to do a clean install of Windows 8.1 from a disk or making a ISO image, that anyone knows.
Thing that would get me is if i have to ever do a system recovery i will have to download all those Windows 8 updates again and then Update to Windows 8.1 again.

One reason i asked about this option. I have the disc's.

I haven't got a tablet. Any reason you can't install like you would on a proper machine?

If you mean by hooking up a portable DVD through a USB OTG cable, but would be unable to boot from disc.

Another option making a ISO image, then copy it to the MicroSD card and mounting the image.
    Did this with Microsoft Office.

These i feel are only option, but limit to booting from an OS disc if needed to.

First, some tablets have a locked partition and you cannot install any other OS onto it. Not sure if this is the way your tablet is or not. My experience is if the tablet came pre-installed with Windows 8 then it has a good chance of having a locked partition.

I have an Asus B121 tablet. It originally came with Windows 7 and it does not have a locked partition.

I have a Windows 8.0 Pro upgrade key but I just finished doing a clean install of Windows 8.1 on it so it can be done.
