    Connecting External Backup Drive

I have a external drive that I used for backup with XP. What do I need to do to make it work with windows 8? How do I get win to recognize it? It is a IDE drive and is connected via USB.

    Thanks

What happens when you plug it in?

If the answer is nothing, I would try installing the drivers using compatibility mode XP SP3.

Usually just plugging in the USB cable will work, it's the backup software/program that may be an issue. I don't use such software, prefer simple copying so I can use the External USB HDD on any computer that can read NTFS formatting. Mac OS X usually can't read NTFS but I use a 120GB FAT32 HDD for that or the NAS on my Network [connected to the Router]..

I'm wondering if the drivers are 16 bit. If so it may require a VM to use it since the W8 is x64. Dosbox may also be worth a try.

I got it figured out. A jumper on the drive was not pushed in tight..

    Thanks
