HI,

I have problem that just crept up, my rear usb ports are malfunctioning. when I plug my mouse in the light underneath it comes on, but the mouse is not operational. The keyboards numlock light doesn't even go on.

My front ports are working now, but this is greatly inconveniencing me because, my scanner, printer, and headphones were plugged into there and now I have access to neither.

This started as soon as I plugged my phone into the front usb port as I have done over a thousand times with multiple phones even of dubious origin with no such a result.

Please help.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. No. Everything is standard which is confusing, I can
t update the drivers because it says they're up to date. I did have an unknown device showing there before that I could not automatically update either but its gone now.

HI,

I have taken an inspection, and it appears that when i plug in anything into the back ports now, in my hardware manager portal it lists it as "Other Devices" and has the particular peripheral as an "unknown device".

I had my mouse plugged into its regular slot when I saw this. Any ideas?

And yes, everything plugged into the back of the machine has that. I had unplugged everything from there when I answered the first time.

Here are my specs, and my usb information,

I also noticed that my CPU is near water boiling point. Any idea how I can bring that down, I have to leave it on for weeks at a time some times.

Before we go any further you need to turn that PC off now. That temperature is miles too high for the CPU and will kill it with prolongued use. You need to power down, unplug everything and remove the side of the case. Check the CPU cooler fan for dust, if it's full of dust take a soft paint brush and work the dust out then take a can of compressed air and give it some short, sharp bursts to remove any remaining dust.

If there is no dust then you need to remove the CPU cooler, clean off the existing thermal paste and apply some fresh thermal paste. If you need any help doing this there are plenty of YouTube videos to guide you, but I can't stress enough how important it is to sort that temperature out before anything else. If you don't the computer will die simply put.

When you can please post your system specs into your profile by clicking the link underneath your name on the left whwre it says 'My System Specs'. That way you carry your specs with you wherever you go.

I removed a mountain of dust but there is like a 1 degree difference. I will need to buy thermal paste. But if I need a new cooler please recommend one.

About any other problems I have. What now?

Let's get the CPU sorted first, it's imperative. The cooler would depend on the size of your case and budget, if you could let me know both I'll recommend one. Is your current cooler actually working, as in is the fan spinning?

Download Core Temp and see what it shows. I have a new AMD laptop and Speccy shows my CPU temp way over the fail point. I used Core Temp and got the right readings.

Download Core Temp 1.0 RC6 - MajorGeeks

After you get the temp under control, right click the hub and ports on the left pane in USBTree. That should give you some options to reset the port.

Dudes, the ports are working again. I did nothing reconcilable with logic. I opened that usb hub. No yellow signs were there anymore. Then I plugged in my keyboard and mouse and they worked as normal again.

What has caused this?

OK 35 degrees Celsius. thermal gel re-applied. usb's working. But I have had this issue that is not being resolved, I did memtest and all sorts of diagnosis' and was made to delete that and install this but the problem still exists.

When I start up my pc, IF it makes it into windows on first boot, 2 mins in I get a blue screen and the message Driver_State_Failure. It then reboots and works perfectly, I can bypass this by rebooting my pc as soon as I press the power button but that's retarded.

What do I do?

EDIT: Pointless post as the issue is resolved.

OK I've been looking into your case. You currently have two exhaust fans (1 rear, 1 top) are both of those spinning? I presuming they are as your other temperatures look fine but it's worth checking. It may also be an idea to fit an additional fan at the front of the chassis as an intake.

The maximum height CPU cooler you can fit is a little over 6" so I'll look for a suitable air cooler for you. Again I could do with knowing your budget to source one. Reapplying new thermal paste will be a muct as well, my recommendation would be some Arctic MX-4, and you'll need to clean off the existing paste with some ArctiClean thermal Compound Remover.
