Hey, sorry if I am stating the obvious, but you did remember to press and hold the button under the mouse till the light alternates green and red before attempting add the device?

If not you will need to remove all trace of the mouse then try again.

I got my Bluetooth notebook mouse 5000 to work in Win8 by setting the mouse to be discoverable then right-clicking on the Bluetooth icon in the system tray and selecting Add a Bluetooth device. It opened the PC Settings app > Devices and successfully found and installed the mouse. I hope this works for you too.

Re: Bluetooth not working in windows 8

I got mine to work using the following steps:

[ Any Broadcom Bluetooth Software may prevented you from
    adding Bluetooth devices correctly.]

[You should now see the Bluetooth icon has been added
    to your system tray]

    • Right click the Bluetooth Icon, in your System Tray, on the right side of
      you toolbar.
    • Select Add Device

[You should now be able to pair and begin using your
bluetooh device with further connection issues]

But doesn't it all depend on the wireless adapter one has?

    It says on that page:

    Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230
    Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6235
    Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 135
    Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1030
    Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6230
    Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 130

I don't have any of those.

My Laptop has Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 1000, yet it still worked for me. If it does not work, then simply rollback the driver to the previous version. You must make sure that any previous Bluetooth Software installations are removed from your list of installed programs for it to work. I downloaded the latest Broadcom Bluetooth software for Windows 8 prior to getting it to work. It appears the Broadcom software was conflicting with the Bluetooth setup.

Windows 8 was able to both quickly recognized my USB Bluetooth adapter and installed it correctly. However, I was unable to successfully add or pair any Bluertooth devices correctly, due to the conflicting Bluetooth software failures that were being caused by a conflict between the Bluetooth software in the Intel ProSet and the Broadcom Bluetooth Software that had managed my Bluetooth adapter and connections.

You might also try simply downloading the new Broadcom Bluetooth driver and software for Windows 8. If your system does not support the Intel Pro Set w/ Bluetooth option. However, the Broadcom option is for users who are using USB Bluetooth 4.0 adapters and may conflict with your existing Bluetooth software.

The Intel installed fine but in my case it doesn't solve the issue why I was trying it in the first place. I was hoping beyond hope to install my BT keyboard without using a passkey. No dice unfortunately, Win 8 has taken care of that little fiddle, which is invaluable to us multi-booters using MS KB's and mice. So for now I still have to use my wired KB with 8, only with 8, It works across 7, Vista and even XP because one can get around the passkey issue. That silly little dongle of theirs doesn't accept more than one passkey at a time seemingly. If you actually use one then all the other boots lose the KB.

By uninstalling BT software I assume you mean the appropriate BT drivers as Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard software isn't necessarily BT oriented.

I had the exact same issue as rfyork and after reading all the suggestions (all of which were obvious, but none worked) I re-installed again using the BT icon in systray which took me to metro mode, found device, and entered 0000 as password. Previously, I had left password field blank and continued, but once I entered 0000, the mouse is responsive and online. Hope that helps others.
