Computer restarts in the middle of bf4/watch dogs

Hi i have a problem. i just got a new pc. pretty solid build.
    Geforce gtx 780 ti
    Intel core i5-4670k 3,4 GHz
    8 GB ram
    1920x1020
    337.88 drivers for nvidia
    Windows 8.1
corsair ax 760i 760w Platinum Psu

This is more than enough to run ultra on bf4/watchdogs but i get these random pc restarts and just crashes where i can't see anything. it's just black. but the pc is on.

How long does it run for before this happens? Does your system start acting sluggish before it happens? Does it always happen at the same point, or after the same amount of time? Does it happen every time or just some times? Right now it seems like it could either be a driver issue or a heat issue.

Is there anything in your C:\Windows\Minidump folder? Have you checked the Event Viewer for any reports or errors?

    the minidump folder is empty.
it is random. sometimes it doesn't happen and sometiems it does. but most likely it happens. usually in the start or after 30 minutes. the most times it crashes is in bf4 and watch dogs when i jsut started th game. otherwise i can play for a bit but then it crashes. also usually the fans go up to very high % usage when it crashes

Maybe its a driver issue then. One thing I recommend trying is downloading Driver Booster from IOBit and letting it update all your out of date drivers, then try again. Also try running the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool in the Administrative Options in the control panel. After that, try running a chkdsk with the command prompt using chkdsk /r.

the only driver that needed updating was a driver for the network card. and chkdsk did nothing. i tried the windows memory check and no errors it said

Try installing SpeedFan and see where the temps of you CPU cores are sitting at while idle, and while playing a game. Post the temps here. Your CPU may be overheating and triggering the thermal shutdown protection circuit. With the Core i5 series, thermal shutdown comes in at 100C. Id say as long as your not exceeding 85C you should be fine. Typically you dont want your core temp to exceed 75C for extended periods of time.

Also maybe run sfc /scannow from an administrator level command prompt and see what that turns up. It may be due to a corrupt system level file or driver.

my gpu tweak settings have set my fans to auto. maybe i should change that?
it has also set the gpu temp target(c) to 82

Should i optimise those settings maybe? currently im running world of warcraft spotify skype and google chrome at 50*C

The crash with running speedfan is fairly common on some chipsets. Some storage drivers dont play nicely with Speedfan for whatever reason. There is a workaround for this though. What you can do is edit the shortcut for speedfan. If you dont have a shortcut for it on your desktop, create one. Then right click and it and click properties. In the target box, after the end of the quotation marks add the flag /NOSCSISCAN. I had to do this myself to keep it from crashing my system and after that it works flawlessly.

50*C is a very acceptable core temp and is not enough to cause problems. The only other thing I can think of is doing a surface scan test of your HDD to see if there are any bad sectors. Download a program called HDDScan and use that to do a read test on the drive. Other than that, try looking through the event viewer for anything that seems off that might be related to these two games and any other programs you have been having issues with. If that doesnt turn up anything, Ill be at a loss.
