I have a new Dell 64 bit with Windows 8.1. When I started up the new PC it did not recognize my Brothers MFC-7469DN. It saw it as a "USB Composite Device".
I took the following steps to install the driver:
I removed the device through the control panel.
Uninstalled the drivers using BrRemPnP.exe from the Brothers website.
Checked for, downloaded and ran Windows updates.
Rebooted as instructed.
Printer again showed up as "USB Composite Device".
Properties were - Device status: "This device cannot start (Code 10)", "operation failed" and "The requested operation failed".
Can not update firmware because Windows does not recognize the printer.
Removed the device again.
Disconnected power and USB.
Again uninstalled the drivers.
Downloaded and installed the mfc7460dn drivers from www.support.brothers.com.
Ran driver setup.
Connected USB & Power as instructed.
Next instruction was to wait for process to continue. "Some windows will open and close during operation." .
Nothing happened.
Printer again appears as "USB Composite Device".
Connected USB and power as instructed.
Over the past several day I have spent many many many hours searching the internet for a solution. I have found nothing that has worked. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
