    32-bit operating system support

Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2 devices are optimized for 64-bit versions of the operating system. 32-bit versions of Windows are unsupported on these devices. If a 32-bit operating system is installed, the devices may not boot into Windows correctly. This is true both when you boot from external media such as an attached USB or DVD drive, and when you try to boot to an image that was applied to the local disk.

Windows 8 support for Surface Pro 2

Installation of Windows 8 on Surface Pro 2 devices is not supported. Because Windows 8.1 was included with the Surface Pro 2 device, all device drivers and firmware are written for the more recent version of the operating system. Because of servicing changes between Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, these drivers and firmware will not function correctly under the earlier OS version. Customers who use Surface Pro 2 should use Windows 8.1 as the base for custom images that they deploy.
