HP printer not installing correctly

When I turn my HP LaserJet CP1215 on, on a fresh install of Win 8 Preview the Printer Driver loading icon appears on the taskbar and the green shade goes across as if it's installing correctly. Looking in Control Panel/Printers and devices shows the printer installed and the properties shows the device is working correctly.

However when I try to print in any application no printer is shown, and trying to add a printer runs through the search and finds nothing.

What am I doing wrong? The printer works fine in win 7, any pointers or experiences would be much appreciated.

Thank for reading .. Barry

I think its the drivers, I had the same problem with my HP C309a. Hp is behind in driver updates, at least for my printer.

My Photosmart 8250 will not install either no drivers well that is one glitch i reported so far running on my HP9720US laptop now was going to use the SSD but decided to keep my install of W7 intact on that drive for now. I haven't seen to many SSD installs of W8 on the forums but I haven't looks for them either. Enjoy. Plus now I have to many installs of my office Pro and have to call and explain why all the activations haven't had to do that since XP hope I get a good English speaking person.

If you go to the following page you will find your windows 7 drivers - I copied the following and highlighted what I think may be helpful - you should of left the printer unplugged until you installed the driver software - this used to be a nightmare to fix - you could contact hp for help OR a system restore, or go to recovery in control panel, and reset your PC if system restore doesn't work.

You may also need the firmware upgrade listed below:

If the drivers or firmware wont install and you get an error, because the installer is written for w7, do the following :
To install a driver/program/firmware in compatibility mode - right click the setup.exe file - click properties - click compatibility - check run in compatibility with vista/w7 etc - check run as administrator - leave the rest blank. Start setup.exe and install.

HP knew Windows 8 was coming out, and did nothing to update their software. Almost every HP printer I have come into contact with out there is having problems with windows 8, my one year old HP printer from BEST BUY will not install, "no drivers available", yet, my nephews seven year old Dell had no problems at all installing. If this trend continues we are already starting a social network against HP to stop a Billion future HP printers from being sold. Will keep you updated if HP does not change their ways.:mad:

Big bad HP I tell you!!! Make sure you patched Windows up to date and install the driver by using the device manager or regularly using compatibility mode for Windows 7.

Disable bi-directional communication in the printer settings if issues still exist.

Hey All,
note that even though Windows8 is really only at Consumer Preview/Beta, HP (and other vendors) have provided in-OS support for many products.
As in Win7 (and previous OS-Readiness activities), MS will work directly with the Vendors to test and optimize drivers (both in-OS & via Windows Update) up until RC.
Have you tried checking out 'Update catalog' (Microsoft Update Catalog) for downloaded drivers available on WU?

Cheers!
Now...onto Win9! :)

Hi spiritedaddyo and welcome.

The Microsoft Update Catalog is just a repository that Windows Update relies on. If hasenourlv followed well, he/she has already tried it.

Yep! seems that HP is complying with windows 8, getting most all their printers compatible. Good job HP. I should not have been so quick to judge. Thanks to GMAN for helping me to figure it all out.

more than a year after Windows 8 introduction, HP has not yet developed the driver for my HP Laser Jet M1319f MFP.
The HP support charges me the same amount I have to pay for a new printer to fix the problem. This should be a wake up call to customers to avoid HP products!!
