Solved Updates to 8.1 Blew my Printer Driver Away??

Last night two updates from MS, KB2919355 & KB2961887 were installed. Today the driver for my Epson R3000 printer was gone. Does anyone have any idea what could be going on? Windows 8/8.1 seems to have a problem with this printer, even though Epson claims it is compatible and provides updated drivers. When I updated from Win8 to 8.1, it replaced my Epson drivers is a very basic MS generic driver. I had to manually install the Epson drivers again. That was a pain, and took several attempts. Is there a recommended way to install a driver that works?

OK problem solved. It appears the issue was that the printer was turned off when the updates were done, and that blew away the driver settings... Does that make sense? Turned the printer on, and it went through some kind of self installation and is ok now.
