Hi,

I dualboot W8 & XP, this morning W8 did not boot normally but, in a very restrictaed way reminisent of the XP "Safe Mode", with the error icon saying
" HD problem" back your files, pls see attached.

I recycled the HD cables rebooted W8 several times with the same, then booted in XP & all worked fine, no problems reported, even FSX worked.

Can anybody help on this please?

Hi there

Even if disks are 100% OK you should ALWAYS have backups - and preferably keep your DATA separate to OS and programs (Data - office documents, multi-media - music / video, installation files etc etc).

That way you can make windows partitions smaller and you don't lose data if you need to re0install the OS.

If Windows is detecting a HDD error back up again QUICK in case the HDD fails -- you've been lucky this time - could be a temporary (correctable) error - however any mechanical device CAN and DOES fail from time to time -- fortunately HDD failures are rarer than you think considering the number of HDD's in use world wide.

Prepare though to get a new HDD at some date.

Cheers
