USB not recognized (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

I have a flash drive that I previously used in public computer lab (where many viruses linger) the other day to do my work. As I got home, the flash drive isn't working anymore, saying "USB Device not Recognized". I also noticed that it really took me a while to finally, safely remove it from the computer lab's PC. So I actually wonder if it actually removed my flash drive properly.

On Device Manager, it says "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".
On the Properties, the device status says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) -- A request for the USB device descriptor failed."

My flash drive is a Kingston Flash Drive DataTraveler (DT100) 16GB, and my PC is running on Windows 8.1.

    Things I have tried:
    - Shut down my PC, unplugged power and removed battery, waited for a while, booted my PC and try plugging in again.
    - On Device Manager, uninstalled it and scanned for hardware changes, it still returns as "Unknown USB Device".
    - On Device Manager, I clicked "Update Driver Software..." and it returns me a message saying "The best driver software for your device is already installed".
    - Unfortunately, when I visited Kingston's website to check if there is driver for this specific flash drive, there isn't any... "There are no downloads or drivers available for this product".
    - Used Windows 8's Troubleshooting tool. It only detected my problem, but was unable to fix it.
    - I also tried plugging it to other devices that are running on Windows XP, Vista and 7, none does any better.

Is there any other way to fix it?

if you have tried on other systems using different OS then the error is normally because of issues with the item not the PC , it might be 'confused' or have corrupted data or be faulty.

If you have the data still stored elsewhere...then you may be able to reset the flash drive and see if it recognises it then.

I'm not sure if there is a reset switch anywhere on that stick.

Umm... that means I have to try cracking the case open to find the reset switch?

No , don't try that... , this is what happens when I read forums just after getting out of bed.

My original statement still applies though..if you have tried other systems and other OS on other PCs with the same result, my best guess is the USB stick is now faulty unfortunately.

I had one thumb drive that did that on my desktop PC. It was a Lexar 128GB USB 3. It worked fine on my laptop in both USB 3 and USB 2 ports. On my desktop PC it just kept giving that error no matter what USB 2 port I plugged it into. That PC doesn't have a USB 3 port which was why I tried it in my Laptop. I ended up returning it. I bought a Kinston HyperX USB 3 64 GB drive and it works fine on all my PC's. I have another 24 or so Kingston drives and they all work fine. Some old some new.

My drive worked fine in one PC but not in another. Every other thumb drive I have worked in the PC that didn't like that one drive. I still don't know if it was the drive or that PC that had the issue? I bought the Lexar because it was on sale. Kingston is actually my preferred brand.

    Haha. Thanks for responding, though
I am afraid the PC in the computer lab did some sort of "short circuit" to my flash drive and now it is no longer working although most of files inside already have backup, the ones I just worked on have not. Ugh, my precious time...

Kingston is my preferred brand too and in my place, alongside with SanDisk, the stocks are literally everywhere compared to other brands.
Geez, just previously I had an old drive damaged and now this... and both USED to work perfectly fine (=A=)
