We have some "Show Us" threads on the forum, so I thought I'd start one on the Windows phone. :)

Just upgraded my Nokia Lumia 1520 to 8.1 via Developers Preview program. WP8.1 is quite a big step from WP8. Lots of added features. More categories in settings for personalization & management, personal assistant Cortana, an Action Center, and a big overhaul of IE.

One of the personalization features is to be able to add a pic the Start Screen background which causes some tile to go transparent. I did a little tile shuffling and took a screenshot. The Start Screen is asking "How do you like me now?!!" :D

Thanks, Edwin. :)

Those ElitePads look to be great devices. You must work for an innovative company to buy such innovative devices. :thumb:

Yes, it’s always something sometimes that comes up to spend our “boyz toyz” money on. I had to wait about a year before I could afford to get my Lumia. It is serving me well. :)

My phone contact is up at work this summer. In the past 6 years, I have had a BlackBerry, droid 2 and currently Samsung Galaxy s3. I usually like to try something different when I switch phones, so who knows, perhaps I will try a Windows phone. Will see what's available this summer.

That's a nice work perk, Patrick. And they let you pick what you want I take it? Double WOW! :thumb:

Working construction I've had many phones starting with a bagger. I can honestly say that this is a nice device.

Well, it means I am on call 24x7x365...so unsure if everyone would consider that a perk.

We can pick what we want. It has to be on our Verizon plan, and it has to be under $200 with the contract our I have to pay the difference out of pocket.

We have 1 person on BlackBerry still, handful on iPhones (becoming more popular), the rest on Droids. We don't have a Windows phone yet.

Nah, I am waiting for the official Nokia or MS update. But none in sight yet. But I am in no hurry.

In the meantime here is a pic of my current desktop and a pic of a few selections of my webradio which I really like. It is the Nostalgie app. It may look French, but it is very international.

I had Vz, but AT&Bleed had the exclusive on the 1520, so I went with buying outright with prepay. $200 ought to get a nice device.

We have 1 person on BlackBerry still, handful on iPhones (becoming more popular), the rest on Droids. We don't have a Windows phone yet.

Well then you can be the “first kid on the block” to get a Windows phone. :D

I see what you mean. Hardly worth the phone. One would think they would schedule different people each week. I take it this is mainly when a server down?

It's a small shop people wise. We all have areas of expertise, and we just call whomever is best at something whenever there is a problem and if we cannot reach them, we move down the list. It works for us, and means we don't have to stay right near a computer on a given weekend. If we are out and about and there is a problem, we just call somebody else who might be in a better position to help out. I've been on call like this for nearly 15 years.

Yeah, mostly sever down stuff. Or alerts that hard drives are filling up, cpus are pegged, memory is over utilized, hard disks have failed, backup jobs have completed/failed....our end user problems like somebody cannot VPN into the network, or can't get email, etc.

We have about 7 server guys managing about 500 virtual servers for customers and back end office stuff. We are about 90% Linux and 10% Windows. Have about 275 desktops, about 90% Windows and around 10% Apple which has just started coming into the mix in the last year. Our core developers have all starting moving to Apple and as they say, "you will have to pry them from it cold dead hands". Our director of IT and development is on a Mac. When it was time to upgrade the server guys in the US he told us we could get Apples, but we all declined. It would not be a great for me at work.
