I am trying out the x64 version of windows 8.1 update on a fresh install. The printer I have is a HP710c and the drivers are provided in windows both 32 bit and 64 bit. Printer works fine in the 32 bit version but nothing happens on the 64 bit OS. Documents go to the spooler then just disappear as if being printed but arent.

Also the spooler seems to fall over when I send a document to the printer or try to print a test page. Tried the trouble shooter and changed the settings on the print spooler service to always restart after error.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Follow HP's instructions for flushing the Print Spooler. Make sure that you are actually printing to the printer as the Default printer in Devices & Printers, and not to something else that is default printer.

Hi thanks for the reply. I am printing from the printer dialog box, eg the test page and nothing prints. The spooler is empty and it seems as if it is printing but nothing comes out. I have tried re-installing and deleting the drivers but no effect. Any other ideas?

Hey,

Just wondering if you are facing the same issue as me? I just posted a few hours ago about an issue that I have been having with my HP Laserjet 1515 which seems pretty similar. Been searching the web for a few days trying countless things to try to fix it. Take a look at my thread as there are some examples of things that people did in similar situations where the problem was solved.

Hey clifton. If you go to the HP forums there is a sticky about my printer and possibly others. Its a x64 driver problem. There is a patch for vista x64 and windows 7 x64 but not windows 8 (although it has been mooted one maybe forthcoming). I suggest you make a post on the HP forums and you may get a new driver to make HP aware there is a problem.

Thanks for that Banger, I have posted to the forums yesterday... they get so many support requests it has already been pushed down to Page 4... my guess is that it will be put in the 'too hard' basket and just ignored -as they often do. Who knows though... ;)
