Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio running Windows 8.1 Pro.
I was on cs portable with a USB mouse and I pressed a few keys and the mouse stopped to work. It came up with the message that it was not recognized. I tried to uninstall the USB drivers, but had no luck. This problem has been going on for a few days. I tried other solutions but they didn't seem to work. The red LED light was on.

Any help is appreciated very much,

Ahmed Shauq

Reinstall your mouse drivers? That would be my first thing to try. Go into Device Manager>Mice and other pointing devices. Right click on your mouse. There are several options, one being "Scan for hardware changes". You may get a clue there, or not. Next, you may want to uninstall, then reinstall the drivers through Device Manager.

Also, check to see if other USB devices work properly, such as a flash drive, camera, external drive, etc. If they all work, your USB drivers should be OK.

Go to the manufacturer's site and update all the computer's drivers; can't hurt and may help.

I hate it when I poke a key (never know which one) and something like this happens! Good luck.

No, I don't have avast installed.
hi,what about wyona's suggestions did any of them work.

also what couple of keys did you press

The keys were something like alt, ctrl, shift and a few others (don't know them). I tried a USB it worked on 2 out of the 4 USB ports, but the mouse doesn't work on any. I will now try to update all of the computer's drivers.

Before you try any of my suggestions, Ahmed, I'd suggest you try a system restore as Winuser suggested: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/4692-system-restore-how-do-windows-8-a.html. Windows 8 isn't as smart about system restore as Windows 7 was, but hopefully you have a restore point. If not, go here: System Restore - Enable or Disable - Windows 7 Help Forums Although the link says Windows 7, it's for Windows 8 also.

If some of your USB ports don't work, that may be a clue; in my not so humble opinion, pressing certain keys on the keyboard should not be allowed to change hardware at all. You may be able to go into Device Manager and return your USB ports to default; I've never had this problem, so I'm not sure.
