Solved Driver\WudRd Failed to Load....

Has anybody been able to fix this warning message that came with W8? Every machine I have running W8.1 gets a couple of these warnings at boot time. This system ASRock Z77 OC Formula/3770K seems to get a triple dose of the warnings. I have tried the "Fix" of setting the startup to "Automatic" for "Windows Driver Foundation" but that had no effect. I do have a USB Keyboard and Mouse connected to the system but then who doesn't these days. I know it is just a warning message and probably has no effect on the system but.... I'm so close to having a clean event log at boot time. Any next step suggestions would be appreciated. Maybe W8.1.1 will fix?

I used to see this, but I don't any more. I don't remember what I did to fix it, it was a while back.
But I have the service set like this, so maybe that was it:

wudfsvc = Manual start

Yes, "Manual" is the default setting. I've tried "Automatic" and the put back to "Manual". Like I said above, no effect.

I believe it is due to the presence of flash drives detected at boot. The service is needed for smart cards, etc.

I had one USB Flash drive connected and saw it on every reboot, then I had two and I saw two of these.

I did some investigation, did some voodoo, I guess, and I haven't seen it in a long time.

Minor success!! I finally figured out that having "Hot Plug" Enabled on the SATA Ports caused the Warning Message(s). Disabled Hot Plug on all the Intel Ports and half of the Warnings went away. Unfortunately, I can't find a way to Disable Hot Plugging on the Marvell Ports. So I switched all the hard drives that were on the Marvell SATA3 Ports to the Intel SATA2 Ports. No more warning messages! There must be some devious way to Disable the Marvell 91XX Controller Hot Plug Option on a ASRock Z77 OC Formula MB running Windows 8.1 but I have not discover it...yet...!

Have you already installed the latest Marvel sata 3 windows 8.1 drivers.
There also new windows 8.1 compatible drivers for your Intel Storage.
Look at ASRock > Products > Motherboard > Z77 OC Formula > Download

Yes, I installed all the latest W8.1 drivers as soon as they were posted on the ASRock site many months ago.

Hmm... my faulty memory is more faulty than I remembered.

I never did fix this and I see it happening now.

Immediately after the error message there is this log:

"The UMDF reflector was unable to complete startup because the WUDFPf service was not found. This service may be started later during boot, at which point Windows will attempt to start the device again."

I get one for each USB3 flash drive (I have two mounted at startup).

I think I tried making the service start automatically, but it still wasn't soon enough, if I trust my untrustworthy memory.

All my SATA ports have Hot Plug disabled in BIOS, but this is on the USB drive.

I don't think there is any way you can get the service to start in time - this happens very early in the startup process.

I have found that setting this to automatic and rebooting fixes the issue temporarily and by that I mean until Windows resets the parameter to Manual again. I have not found out why the resetting to the default occurs.

A side note, Windows 7 just recently changed the default to Automatic and it is not changeable.

I disable "Hot Swap" for all the Intel SATA ports in the BIOS and the warning messages went away. Problem solved for me at least.

know it's old thread but the fix doesn't work I'm on a totally up to date system 8.1 pro no errors, still getting this junk in event log.

Z170 boards I use evga but cannot disable hot swap

Now all I am getting is the super common seems to be Win8.1 errors in the forums about the Kernel errors multiple









They happen on restart like the others did but those are fixed not this seems like no one got a fix because they went to developing win10 unless I'm wrong and you have a link to the fix I missed.

Forgot to add this seems common with the OS everywhere
