My LG DVD drive not showing in windows explorer or system, no yellow exclamation mark, was working fine before installing W8CP, any ideas? tried the following;

1. unplugged and re plugged the cables.
2. search for hardware changes in device manager.

Cant think of anything else as I`m not really a registry boffin.

Any help welcome, regards
Steve

Sorry. been away for a while.

Try to go see if it is listed on the disk management under Computer management screen.
Or.
Use third party partition program (Partition wizard lite or Easeus). Sometimes a little file crosslink will make WCP unable to read next drive on the same HDD.

To Kevin Ismail: dvdRW drive is not listed under disk management. Partition software that you suggested sees only hard disks, not cd/DVD drives.

That quite weird as Windows commonly able to detect any device attached.
I suggest you to fill your system spec on your profile to help us in helping you solve the matter.
Few question here:
- Did it work before installing WCP?
- Did you see the drive is listed in your BIOS setup?
- Did you install already the motherboard chipset driver?
If the most answer is yes then we shall suspect there is a physical problem with the drive, can be the drive itself, the sata cable, or drive powerline from your PSU.

Try to unplug and plug back all cable to the drive, make sure its all well fitted, feel with your hand if it softly vibrating when the PC is turned on, and post back here, OK.

Apart from the above, ensure that the following is ticked:

Control Panel --> Folder Options --> General --> Navigation Pane --> Ensure both 'Show Favorites' and 'Show all Folders' are both ticked.

Untitled.png

The problem I had was that my 'Devices with Removable Storage' were showing in the main pane on the right but my Floppy Drive, DVD RW's and Removable Disks showing were not being listed under 'Computer' on the left hand list. Neither was my Acronis Secure Zone. Now they all are after ticking both boxes mentioned above..

I'm not sure if it'll solve your problem but it may be worth trying.

Hi i am new to this forum. I have the same problem with my LG drive. No problem with Windows 7, when i installed it a year ago, but since i installed windows 8 in a dual boot, there is no drive in Device manager,it is not recognized when i disconnect and plug it back in. Windows 8 is looking good but i cannot fix, the sound or anything else until i get it to recognize the optical drive.

First thing you need to confirm, upon booting up, go to BIOS setup see if your you specified LG Drive is listed in drive configuration.

Post back here when done.

I too have this malfunction. My drive shows up in my bios but no where else. (including device manager in any form)
Thing is I installed from a disc drive so it worked at some point and I actually think mine may have gone missing after I updated... (via windows update)

I am about to check my Bios, but i'm sure it will be there, for it comes up as first boot priority.
What i have noticed is that, it shows my floppy drive as working properly, but i don't have one. I also installed a 64 bit Windows 8 from an iso dvd drive, and it is fine in W7,it is a glitch in the beta issue.

Back Again, I have checked the Bios, and it shows up there, whether it makes any difference my LG unit is an old pata drive, not sata, but my Hard drives are new 500GB Sata, and old 80GB Pata, the 500GB unit is partitioned for Windows 7 and now Windows 8, while running XP on the old drive. All drives show in Bios.

Go to BIOS. See if the setting is native/AHCI/legacy.
If you have an old PATA drive then you should have it backward compatible setting as legacy, avoid also auto setting, disable S.M.A.R.T.
Discover it yourself, but not to wildly changing anything.

Kevin

Edit:
You BIOS seems labeled as 1984-2007 Award Software
Try to set On-Chip SATA Mode as combined

Hi Kevin, Thanks for the help before i forget to say so.
So i went into the Bios again and for the life of me i cannot find this native/AHCI/ legacy section. Under the properties of the drive Auto settings are set,S.M.A.R.T is diabled and i changed the on-chip SATA mode to combined. None of which made any difference. I noted my motherboard is 1984-2008, 9/5/2008 to be precise.

Abhi & Bushbogan
Did you all have done installing the updates? (which is around 4 updates so far).
Most of my device is recognizeable after runing all updates. It is good to my two desktop and an ASUS laptop.
I did mention about try installing the chipset driver though WCP already done so.

@Bush: I read your mobo manual true that your BIOS have combine/non-combine
  • Combined: Sets all SATA devices to operate in PATA mode. Combined allows a maximum of 4 ATA devices to be used simultaneously: two PATA devices plus two SATA devices.
  • Enhanced: Sets all SATA devices to operate in SATA mode.
  • Non-Combined: Sets all SATA devices to operate in PATA mode and disables the integrated IDE controller.
That was what I learn from it. I think you can try alternating combine and non. Though both actualy can read all PATA drive
OK. I almost run out of options here. :(
Anyone have more advice is appreciated.

Solved my problem for the most part yesterday. Both drives use IDE bus, one master, one slave. I pulled the DVD player out of the loop. I have now only the DVDRW. I powered up, and bingo! Win8cp saw the RW drive. I decided not to try to get both drives to show by playing around with the jumpers on the drives, but when I do, I'll post the results. For now, I was satisfied with just the one RW drive. Good luck all and thank you for your time
