Does any such animal exist (keyboard to TWO machines)

    Hi there.

I've often thought this would be a useful piece of hardware - a keyboard that has say TWO (or more) transmitters on it so you could use ONE keyboard while working on say two or three machines. A simple "F" type button could set the "Active" target machine.

Saves cluttering up your desk with loads of keyboard when working with more than one machine.

Surprised someone hasn't come up with this idea already -- loads of I.T admins are monitoring / using several machines at once and they can't all be done via a single "Virtual Console" either.

    Cheers

cant say as I have seen one like that ,
and im sure you know about kvm switches ,im using 2 computers now with one monitor and one wired keyboard and mouse ,
at one time I did own a 4 port kvm switch ,good for 4 computers, it was fun just trying to remember what one I was working on without marking each computer

I use a KVM switch for physical boxes. But since everything I do has been going virtual machine, this has become far less common for me to need a KVM.

I've checked before and Logitech says that they don't have anything like that and it may be awhile before something like that appears.

It would be nice if we could buy a unifying receiver for each machine and use the same keyboard among them. Currently, once the keyboard is paired with the first unifying receiver, it won't pair with other unifying receivers. Correct me if I'm wrong.

One could just move the receiver from machine to machine, but for a lot of people that wouldn't be idea, based upon the location of their USB ports.

The keyboard can pair with multiple unifying receivers, but it has to be out of the range of the 1st receiver in order to use it with the 2nd receiver.

    Hi there
Things like KVM switches are fine -- I just thought it would be great just to use keys on the keyboard to switch to the relevant machine -- a KVM is better than having 4 or 5 keyboards on your desk but wouldn't a quick simple key press be even better,

My KVM does switch between machines using the keyboard. I press SCROLL+SCROLL+#. #1 takes me to machine #1, #2 takes me to machine #2, #3 takes me to machine #3, etc.

that's what the software would do ,but you have to have the software on all computer ,so it wouldn't work if you were to hook up a non working computer for testing

my kvm has a button on top ,and its located 6 inches from my keyboard

I have a wired/wireless Logitech mouse (G700) which has a receiver. I use it wired to my desktop and have the receiver in my laptop. As the wire plugs into the mouse end itself, it is quite seamlessly fast to unplug the cord to use the laptop. I'm glad it works like that, I wouldn't want to be clicking away and do something bad on say, the laptop while connected to the PC, and deleted something inadvertently
