Synaptics clickpad suddenly started tracking odd.

So I was using my computer the other day and suddenly my clickpad started tracking very poorly. Before it used to be accurate when it was tracking my finger, however now it jumps around the screen when I move my finger around on it and it takes a full second before the clickpad translates initial input to the mouse. If I put my finger on the trackpad and start moving it the mouse will jump to the location where the pointer should be and will not show the track that the pointer took. I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it and I am having the same problem. I have restarted the system multiple times and it has still not resolved the issue. I cannot click on anything due to the insane inaccuracy of the trackpad. If anybody has any advice on how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Did you try open the Control Panel (all control panel items) select the "Mouse" icon, then click on the "Pointer Options" tab, then UNCHECK the box next to "Enhance pointer precision".

Yes. It makes it worse. I will shoot a video of a side by side comparison. My girlfriend has the sane laptop and it works fine

Here is a video comparing tow computers. Same make and model. One has an AMD processor and the other has an intel. Both of the drivers are up to date. The laptop with the intel processor is malfunctioning. I am going to try safe mode to see if the problem is rectified in safe mode. Notice how the pointer is laggy and input is delayed.

All I can say is; one of those companies (AMD / INTEL) love you, one doesn't. Both would pay you for the video, only one wants to destroy it :)

it is weird. Installed any software or drivers for anything else lately?

Nope. And I just did system restore to before Windows update. I've constantly had problems with this laptop.

I had the same issue on my laptop a while back. Uninstalling and reinstalling the driver fixed it for me. The driver I re installed was from the laptop manufacturer, ASUS, not Synaptic or Windows update if that helps.

It also behaved oddly in safe mode. The sane driver version is on each computer which leads me to believe there is conflicting drivers or conflicting input of some sort. Fwiw the computer that is malfunctioning has a touch screen

I'd uninstall and reinstall the touch screen drivers, if you haven't already. Another option is to disable it in device manager if you don't use it, or just for testing purposes.

Disabled the touchscreen and nothing. I may have to reformat my entire pc for the umpteenth time.

I'm going to remove the baseplate and make sure all the connections are solid.

EDIT: When using my external mouse it behaves normally. It is smooth and consistent. It must be something to do with how the trackpad is gathering or processing information.

Well, I fixed it, I think. I turned the laptop off, removed teh baseplate and the battery, disconnected the clickpad, wiped it down, reinstalled it and firmly seated the ribbon cable, and now it works fine. I don't know if the hardware connection was at fault or if the windows kernel was corrupted and it cleaned itself when the battery was removed. Anyways it works, for now.

Alright, resurrecting this because apparently it is not a hardware problem (I think). I had the same issue today and instead of removing and re-seating the ribbon cable on the trackpad I just removed the battery and reinserted the battery. The trackpad was then fixed. My question is: What is causing this to happen? I know Win 8 stores the kernel for a faster startup, however I read that if you restarted the PC or did a hard reset (hold power button for 7 secs, computer shuts down immediately) that it would clear this stored kernel. Apparently it isn't doing this and the only way to clear the kernel was to pull the battery. Is there a setting in windows I can change where it loads a new kernel every time? (I could care less about an extra 10 seconds during startup) I figured I would post this here in case anybody else has the same problem.

I saw that but for some reason when I restart it won't clear the hiberfile.sys file. I'm going to try it with it off and see what happens

This is still persisting. It appears to be a problem with Windows 8 because one of my friends has the same issue on a different laptop
