Hi folks, I would really appreciate some help as Masterchief disappeared on me (stopped responding, saw he was still active) and then a couple of days later I saw he got banned. I will paste below a message I sent to someone else who hasn't been able to figure this out for me. I'm not the most able computer person and despite Master Chief's obvious expertise, his instructions weren't always the clearest. Thank you very much!

My laptop (Samsung, Windows 8.1, full spec at the end of this email( got very unstable with these problems: 1. Long shutdown times (power light staying on) or not even shutting down properly, just losing power 2. Very long boot times/boot cycles/ 3. BSOD after waking up from sleep
Scannow + disc check did little to improve anything.
I went on a Windows 8/8.1 forum and got some assistance after submitting a zip with dump files, etc
First I was told to remove AVG, (responsible for BSOD/speed issues with many machines am told), which I did via Uninstall and AVG remover tool (had to use Adw Cleaner fromMalware Bytes for toolbar as it was very stubborn).
Then I was told to update to the following Intel driver (Intel RST)
iaStorA iaStorA.sys Sat Sep 01 21:01:24 2012 (5042AFE4)
I installed the driver and the system was very stable for a number of hours with shutdown being stable & start up being relatively quick (albeit having disabled 'quick startup/hybrid shutdown' so around a minute to two mins... interestingly, now after updating when I do shut down when 'fast startip' is enabled, when booting up, the power switches off as soon as light activity begins. Then the next boot is succesful, odd) + waking from sleep issue resolved.

However, the next day the system would not interact with hard-drive having woken from BSOD and I realised that I had a message saying 'Intel RST is not running.' Although the driver says it is working OK, in local services I can see the the service status is 'stopped'. Attempting to 'start' only results in it 'stopping' after a few seconds. Restarts or roll-back + installation again results in the same problem. Simply rolling back to the driver that the laptop has always had then results in long shutdown and boot times (plus the problem of not waking up from sleep properly). The person helping me on the forum has disappeared.
If this issue resolves, I feel I should have a stable system again... help would be much appreciated!
