Thanks Coke for the update. I think I will wait a bit when the updates arrive and see how you W8P 'professionals' will do. I don't like to be the guinea pig in an environment where I am an amateur.

Oh, whs! By the time the update is released you'll probably know it as much if not better than most of us.

According to the article Brink posted the other day it looks as though 9 will be combining all devices with one OS. It will then be familiar all across the board.

HG, you have a lot of trust in my capabilities, thank you. But at my age the neurons turn a bit slower. And now I spend a lot of time with Linux. If you want to make a fun project, have a look at this. This is only a beta version of the tutorial. One chapter is missing and I still have to fine tune it. You can download the PDF from here. The pictures read better than in the web app.

I can relate to the neuron condition, whs. It's short term memory that goes first. Takes a little longer to learn things IMO. I tell others I have a good memory > It's just too short!

LOL! As I think I've said before if my memory serves me right > I'd like to get into such things, but I don't have the time right now. Thanks anyway. You tutorial is coming along nicely BTW.

Would anyone know what's happening with this fellow's system here? Problem with either the Photo app or Windows Phone app

I'll be registering my Windows Phone as a developer phone so I can get 8.1 sooner rather than later.

So far from the /build conference, WOW. Lots and lots wow! Cortana is essentially what a personal assistant does, not like how siri or google now just takes voice commands, she does EVERYTHING. Cortana uses information from the interwebs and from you (you can control how much or how little she can know) to really work just for you. It's quite amazing and I can see why they called her Cortana from the Halo series. Just like in the game Cortana is the most advanced AI construct, Cortana on Windows Phone is literally the most advanced AI construct on any platform. Although it seems like the voice for Cortana will still be the current in-system voices, but it seems like Jen Taylor's is coming...

    Day freaking made.

Hmm, you are really in a hurry, aren't you. Now tell me again why I would need that Cortana stuff. Sounds like a cough pill. LOL

I am, there are quite a few new goodies to play with, new visual animations, probably new sounds, new customizations; basically like playing with a new OS.

I don't know what Cortana would do for you personally, that's something you can either enable or disable just the same. I'm not totally sure how it can benefit me, but from the looks of it, it makes data aggregation even easier than before. For example, you can ask it what are the best Mexican restaurants in the area you're in. Before, that would be handled by the local tab of Bing search with filters applied. This uses natural language, either spoken or typed, to apply those search filters. It also FINALLY includes something of Bing SmartSearch where you can search locally or on the web.

If anything, just think of it as a more streamlined way to access relevant information combined with other cool stuff.

Hmm, thanks Coke. I see myself sitting in my favorite cafe on the Cote d'Azur sipping my espresso. Then I start talking to my phone when 2 husky guys come up and put me into a straight jacket, LOL
