I was looking for a file and clicked and on Computer and noticed I have a hard disk drive profile listed as "Windows C" and another listed as "Windows X." Both had the same disk size and free space llisted. Problem is I only have one hard drive on this computer and one external drive. And the external drive is on the list, too.

The only thing in Windows X was a file called "file history" and some copies of files I had made for school.

I cannot right click and look at its properties, I get a green screen and then sent back to the desk top. I can't rename it. I keep getting a message that says that I have not used a proper volume name. I was able to delete the files in it but the free space hasn't changed (still the same as C).

How do I gat rid of it?

RFIGHT click Computer and then select "Disk management"
If you can see an extra disk there, right click it and select "change letter...etc" Give it an assigned letter (D?) and backout of disk management and then reboot the computer. See if you now have something you can see.

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.
First: No, haven't tried safe mode.

Second: As I am an OS neophyte, what are "SFC" and "DISM?"

Dave, when I click on disk management I get a list of drives two unnamed volumes (one's status is a recovery partition, the other is an EFI System Partition), two "Recoivery (D)" volumes, my external drive and my Windows (C) drive.

When I right click on either of the two recovery volumes all that comes up is "Help." When I click on it it tries to get help files but nothing ever comes up. Same thing happens on the unnrecoivery partition status. The other unnamed volume has alarger right click menu but the only thing I can highlite is help. Which gets me nothing but the seemingly endless attempt at getting a help file.

Hmm. Sounds like a bit of a mess!

Can you send a picture of the disk management?
