Bluetooth problems with PC

So I recently purchased a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and now headphones. I also purchased a cheap Bluetooth 4.0 USB dongle as neither my laptop nor my PC have Bluetooth hardware. I first tried them on my laptop, no problems whatsoever, excellent in fact. Then I put the USB dongle into my PC and tried them there. The mouse and keyboard stop every few seconds for a couple of seconds and the audio is choppy, all are entirely unusable.

Both laptop and PC are on Windows 8.1 so operating system is certainly not the issue and the hardware (mouse, keyboard, headphones, USB dongle) s perfectly fine, when used with my laptop. I have tried every USB port on my PC to make sure it's not a dodgy port and I have tried every single thing I can find through Google searching to try and fix it, such as turning off the USB ports ability to power off, bluetooth device sleeping, removing passwords and changing connection to automatic etc. Nothing has worked and I would really like to know what the problem is and how to fix it for future reference.

Thanks

I think the first thing you need to do is give us the system specs for both the laptop and desktop.

Sorry. The Laptop is a ThinkPad X201 Tablet with i7 620LM, 8GB RAM, integrated GPU, Agility 4 SSD. The desktop is a self build, FX8120, 16GB DDR3 RAM, some motheboard I would have to check, Samsung 840 EVO SSD. Both on Windows 8.1 with all updates.

You say "cheap" dongle so that is a bit concerning. What kind of bluetooth drivers are used for it? Generic Windows or manufacturer provided? I have to say it seems like a driver and/or compatibility problem with the PC since it works on the laptop.

Try a driver search using the Hardware ID of the dongle.

Well it was just a few pound so I didn't expect it to work well, but it does work perfectly with my laptop. For both I simply plugged it in and allowed Windows to install whatever drivers it desired so I assume the drivers on both devices are the same also. It cannot be the dongle if it works with my laptop, can it?

The dongle is working as you say, seems to be something with the PC it doesn't like. What does device manager show for bluetooth?

A search yields that is is made by Cambridge Silicon Radio (CSR). Don't know if you'll have any luck finding updated drivers. I'll try but kinda doubt it.

I found this, don't know if it will work:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS018628

Another here: Download CSR USB Bluetooth Device for all Windows Versions

Doesn't appear there are any specific 8 drivers for it.

Well I'm not quite sure how to if I right click>update driver and it tells me it is up to date. I also assumed that the same driver would be installed in both machines if I let it download and install its own drivers so how would that work on one and not another?
