Search find files on backup drive

Hi, I posted this in the General Support but got no response.

I'm not sure how far reaching this is but I just noticed that when I select a folder and type a file name in the search bar on the right of the address bar, files are found on my backup drive, which is attached by USB to the PC, this drive is attached because it contains other partitions for file storage.

The folder in this case was on the desktop and it shows that it is on C: Drive, but files were found on the H: Drive which is where I run my backup to.

When I un-attach the H drive the files found do not respond to left or right click.

    Any idea what is happening?

    Thanks

    Daniel

I'm not sure I understand your issue entirely but is there any chance that desktop folder is located on your C drive and the folder contains just shortcuts (not actual files) to the actual locations on the H drive? If not, could you give us a right-click properties view of the folder and also a right click properties view of the folder contents (eg select a file or shortcut inside the folder)?

I am not searching in Desktop but on a folder on C: Drive.

    See attached

Search C found H.jpg shows the results of a search on c drive
Search C found H right click.jpg shows right click available
Search C H off no right click available.jpg shows H drive turned off results folder not shown
After boot Search C H off right click available.jpg shows results after boot with H off and right click available again.

Q2.If not, could you give us a right-click properties view of the folder and also a right click properties view of the folder contents (eg select a file or shortcut inside the folder)?

    See attached

right-click properties folder H off.jpg Shows right-click properties view of the folder H Off
right-click properties folder H on.jpg Shows right-click properties view of the folder H on
right click folder contents H off.jpg shows right click properties view of the folder contents H off
right click folder contents H on.jpg shows right click properties view of the folder contents H off

The different GB size shown in the right-click properties folder jpg's is because they were still
building when the screen grab was taken, they are in fact the same size.

I hope this all make sense.

Appreciate any help you can give.

    Regards

    Hi Daniel,

Well, you left out a very important piece of information in your opening description. Specifically, it appears that you are using the Microsoft Train Simulator Software and I (honestly) have no idea what that is (or might be) doing. BTW, I do see (I think) where the first views (1 and 2 from the top down) shows that the files in the C folder appear to be located on H drive and after a reboot they appear to show the same appearances on the C drive (views 3 and 4); unfortunately, I have no idea how that is happening but I suspect it has something to do with that software (which was never mentioned). Anyway, since this may be an application specific issue, I think you would be better served to post your issue at a forum dedicated to that specific software (if available). In summary, I believe this is not a general windows issue because there is specific software involved and, since I am not familiar with that software, I (personally) cannot help you with this issue.

    Good luck,

    Hi

I did not mention it because it is not related, the 1MSTS folder was just the folder I used to demonstrate the issue , it happens with any folder or even if I search the whole C: drive. See attached.

All of the files on C drive are replicated on H drive because it is the backup drive for the C drive.

If the file or folder I am searching for has not been through the backup process, so is not on H drive, it is not found

BTW MSTS Microsoft Train Simulator is the largest selling Train Simulator program of all time and it does not cause this issue, I have it on three PC's and this issue does not occur on them.

    Cheers

    Daniel
