Keep in mind that that stated 6 Gb/s is likely an "up to 6 Gb/s" The interface is SATA III which can run up to 6 Gb/s or 600 MB/s. That doesn't mean the drive actually runs at that speed. If it's a mechanical spinner drive it will be somewhere around SATA I speed of 150 MB/s, probably 110-130 MB/s. The only way you'll get even close to 6 Gb/s is if its an SSD.

Look at your motherboard or dos for it to see which SATA port is the 6GBps port (also called SATA3). Check your hard drive labels to see which one is a SATA3 drive.

    DOS? You mean BIOS right?

Oops! Yes, it should be "BIOS"... Some motherboards are labeled and sometimes, you need the motherboard docs to see which is the SATA3 or 6Gbps port. Many time the faster port is also a different color than the slower SATA ports. A really old SATA2 hard drive will not get any benefit from being attached to the faster port because the hard drive won't support the faster SATA3 protocols.

It doesn't hurt to match up the drive with the port, SATA 2 to SATA 2, SATA 3 to SATA 3. But like I said, if its a 7200 RPM mechanical drive it will only max out at SATA 1 speeds anyway. Now if its an SSD, putting it on the wrong port could kill your speed.
