I assume you have the most recent Acronis version that supports all this new stuff like EFI etc.

Glad to remind me about EFI. EFI is a new stuff for windows 8. That means I need Acronis for window 8.
Upon reading your message, I purchased 2014 Acronis and it is being downloaded at this moment.
I will give a shot with this one. Hope that it works.
I will let you know when I proceed with it.

I think that's where the problem might be. The older versions cannot deal with EFI.

There is a little problem though. If you created an aligned NTFS partition on the SSD, that might not work either. Maybe we need a GPT format. I am a bit lost like you with this new stuff. If we get stuck, we'll as theog. He knows that stuff.

GPT........ That could be a problem too.

I have two 4tb hard disks (Seagate and Hitachi) which are installed in Win7 and Win 8 computers respectively. They are GPT disks.
I have several 2 tb Hard disks in both Win7 and Win 8 computers.
This XP 8700 computer came with a 2tb hard disk. I thought that it is MBR disk. When I was using a partition manager, it says that the 2TB is listed as GPT. I have been trying to restore image created on GPT to SSD disk. Problem seems to be complicated.
You have a detective instinct. My hunch is all of my 2 tB

I completed downloading the most new Acronis program. If that fails to operate SSD properly, the core problem must has to do with 2tb GPT disk.

WHS, last night I repeated the restore with a new Acronis 2014 version. I got the similar results. As described repeatedly, restoring SATA-OS to SSD drive is not a problem. The restored OS on SSD is not of practical use. Windows 8.1 freezes. That is the major problem. The problem I had last night is almost identical to those I observed for last few days.
Because of the hosts of problems, I decided not to purse the restore any more. The only way to work is to install Windows 8 and other programs directly onto SSD drive. That is a time consuming process.

The core of the problem might be related to the nature of GPT disk as you suggested. Briefly, this computer came with 2 TB main drive. Then, I added 2 tb Seagate HD (MBR) and then 4 tb Hitachi HD (GPT). I initially thought that the 2 tb hard drive came with the computer was MBR, which was common. Yesterday, I looked at disks using Partition Wizard (see the attachment). The Main 2 tb drive is GPT disk. I wonder why Dell put GPT disk in the computer. MBR 2TB disk is easier to handle for laymen.

    O. yes. All were converted mbr. GPT-based mbr could have caused the problem. That is my point.
But partition manager still can detect GPD disk even thought it is converted into mbr.

I was thinking about this issues to Dell tech support. I am not sure whether they would know about it.
Anyway, I decided not to pursue it further.

I have so many expensive programs on my computer, it would take a while to install on SSD. There is a possibility to make a phone call for activation of the program ID. Too much hassle.
Thanks for your patience for teaching me how to do it.
    Have a wonderful weekend!

whs, I tried to install windows 8 directly onto 238gb SSD drive using "Windows 8 Recovery Media" DVD disk which came with the computer. I failed to install again. The error is:

We could not install Windows in the location you chose. Please check your media drive. Here is more inf about what happened: 0x80300024.

PS: I could not insert the screen shot.
