strange printer noises(turned off)

strange happening:
(sorry if i'm in wrong forum) just now - while on net or writing email - suddenly my Brother printer started making 'noises' similar to getting ready to print something ! it's turned off (not wireless) but of course connected to my PC-tower. any ideas? thanks ! edythe

I have a Brother printer, they will go into cleaning mode even when turned off. A good thing as keeps the print nozzles from getting dried out and clogged.

I never turn off my Canon printer, intentionally, as every power restart causes an ink nozzle cleaning cycle.
Their cleaning cycles are also based on a time interval, but happen far less frequently than turning on/off the mains power.

oh wow didn't know that - guess i should have read the book LOL - had a Canon Pxma for years - never experienced this -- do you agree with other poster about keeping power 'ON'' while using the computer so this doesn't happen too frequently ? thaqnks so much for replying !

I dunno, I leave mine off mostly and it self-cleans maybe once a day. Doesn't seem that much to me and I don't notice any significant ink usage.
