I just noticed that the DVD drive of my Sony laptop (Win 8.1x64) has a yellow exclamation mark in device manager with the following error message:
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the device with no luck. Any hint? Thanks
UPDATE: I solved the issue. I googled and found that by deleting the UpperFilters and/or LowerFilters value from the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} the issue is fixed. (In my case I had an UpperFilters)
Yes, I can not stress enough how everyone on Windows 8 or even 7 for that matter, should refrain from installing software with drivers that latch onto the default optical driver.
In many cases, it is a bsod waiting to happen.
If software like this is installed, always latest and keep it up to date too.
If anyone knows they have something like this, visit the maker's website and update the software to new.
@OP: Does your screen name on here allude to Autotune or is that only coincidence? I'm a musician.

Hi Master! What software are you referring to? You mean that some software I installed created that problematic registry key?
My screen name alludes to this , I'm an amateur astronomer
