I have W8 and am familiar with it. I downloaded to 8.1 a few weeks ago ..and again, am familiar with it. This morning though I turned on my computer and this happened :-[FONT=lucida grande, tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif] I got the 'Hi' message followed by the next message of windows getting my apps updated. I then had a blank blue screen with a 'start' in the top left hand corner and an arrow in a box pointing to the next page. On the next page I had APPS on the top left hand corner and a blank box. I typed in 'desk top' even tho' that is not an 'app' as such. It took me to a blank black page with a bin in the top left hand corner. It looked liked my machine had been completely wiped. I did receive a message regarding some file not able to be read. This file ended in xxxxxx32 and I forgot the rest of what went before it. Stupidly I did not write this down. It was one of those files that the computer needs to be able to function from what I remember from past experiences with other computers.

I turned the computer off and back on ... (

This has never happened before and I tried to Google it but the answers given did not have any correlation to what happened to me...any clues anyone? Has this happened to you? Do I need to contact Microsoft direct? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If your computer is not seeing files sometimes, then you need to run scandisk and check for errors, if none found then run again with surface test selected.. Its either a bad sector or a virus trying to take control of the file..
