I have W8 and am familiar with it. I downloaded to 8.1 a few weeks ago ..and again, am familiar with it. This morning though I turned on my computer and this happened :- I got the 'Hi' message followed by the next message of windows getting my apps updated. I then had a blank blue screen with a 'start' in the top left hand corner and an arrow in a box pointing to the next page. On the next page I had APPS on the top left hand corner and a blank box. I typed in 'desk top' even tho' that is not an 'app' as such. It took me to a blank black page with a bin in the top left hand corner. It looked liked my machine had been completely wiped. I did receive a message regarding some file not able to be read. This file ended in xxxxxx32 and I forgot the rest of what went before it. Stupidly I did not write this down. It was one of those files that the computer needs to be able to function from what I remember from past experiences with other computers.
I turned the computer off and back on ... ( and it has been working perfectly all day.

This has never happened before and I tried to Google it but the answers given did not have any correlation to what happened to me...any clues anyone? Has this happened to you? Do I need to contact Microsoft direct? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
