I have heard that on the Surface 2, or perhaps in an update, that Microsoft "hid" the tile that allows one to choose the desktop. This is in Windows RT.
I can understand a little bit as I don't use my desktop all that much, but their ARE reasons why I go into the desktop and why it should be kept as is without figuring out how to unhide it or get to it.
I have a stand for my Windows RT and a Microsoft Wedge Keyboard, as well as the manufacturer keyboard, and a Bluetooth mouse. In this configuration, it allows me to go into the desktop and use IE the same way I do o my desktop at home and at work. The favorites bar is there and the address bar is in the standard location. It feels like I am on a regular PC when I attach a mouse and keyboard to my tablet.
I also utilize the windows explorer in the desktop mode because there are times it is just faster to get to the files I need that way rather than using a Metro file browsing app.
We should be able to get to the desktop easily if we choose to go there for whatever reason.
