Windows 8.1 "touch keyboard" is blank

I use touch keyboard often and today I noticed that it's blank (see screenshot). If I maximize it to the wide layout I quickly see the keyboard and then it goes black again. Any ideas as to what this could be? My windows 8.1 installation is two days old and I've been installing stuff all day. Previously, I had no issues with this since day one of Windows 8.1's release.

When I see Windows perform this way its typically one of two problems.

There is a problem with the graphics (video driver). Have you tried to update it? Or maybe even "rolled back" to an older one if you upgraded it recently?

Or, the resolution (or color depth) isn't standard.

Sometimes, a simple reboot fixes these issue. If you've played a graphics intensive video game or even
played a DVD or an MKV movie, it can cause the video to act erratic. Happens on my Lenovo laptop
all the time. Rebooting after playing your game or watching your video will solve it.

Thanks. I've decided to reinstall my windows system, which means a dell factory reset back to Windows 8... lots of updates and software installs ahead of me. The touch keyboard works now, but if it breaks, I'll hopefully catch the app/update that did it.

I hope you tried a system restore before taking such drastic action.
You might have saved yourself a lot of work.

I'm actually pretty much back up to date now on my software - some large games still have to download from steam and Origin, but that's not a big deal - my data had already been backed up.

The keyboard is working and I'm just finishing up on the lasted video driver - we'll see if anything breaks.

I expected things to take a lot longer to setup again, but since I had already gone through the process a few days ago, I had everything setup - just had to click/install/click/install/update/install... LOL

Hey guys! I recently switched over to a dell XPS15 Early 2014 and it's fantastic. I'm just having one issue with the touch screen and chrome. When I "click" on small links using the touch screen, chrome will show a zoomed in version of the link. I'm assuming this is intended to allow me to...
Hi all, So I'm kind of stuck.. I currently have the problem where I am in an endless cycle of "loading files" -> "Windows Boot Manager" (see: How To Boot Into Safe Mode On Windows 8 (The Easy Way)). I have tried to load all of the options -- and none successfully load. I also end up at...

Hi all, I've just built a new PC from parts, listed at the bottom. I detect no hardware issues and the BIOS screens all work fine. I've installed Windows 8 Pro x64 (failed) and refreshed with clean install (same fail). I can install fine and enter the license key and reboots to complete install....
No right click context menu. We can now quit arguing that "Metro" works well on desktops too, or mentioning its merits. Metro is touch only, sucks with the mouse, and metro style apps will never be as good as desktop ones (for mouse). Yes, using Metro with mouse is possible, but it's clearly a...

To all those who keep on spouting the talking point that "touch" is the future of computing... In fact is clearly is NOT. At least for the next half century is isn't. As far as we can tell NOTHING is more efficient than the traditional keyboard and mouse for entering data, it is indisputable. ...
